Rebuilding UGA Football

The D has vastly improved from last year. CTG is getting the players in the right positions. They are going after the football and the cover guys have made great strides over the last year......it takes time to recover after the disaster that WM caused......the 3rd year under CTG will be the one to tell if it has been fixed.....would like to see more of the D in the backfield putting pressure on the QB and getting sacks but this D is still young and learning....

If you look at history most teams that have quick strike high scoring offenses usually have defenses that give up a lot of points. Defense is just on the field too long. Hopefully, if Crowell continues to improve, a consistent running game will give the D a break.

The above paragraph might help us to understand why Saban makes sure he has a stable of running backs . . . . and uses them. Wonder why his defense always seems to look real stout.

OSD has been pointing out for some time that UGA needs to run the football. Guess that is the Saban philosophy also. I now understand why Saban and Alabama win so many games. :)

Man How I miss Herschel Walker, Garrison Hearst, Rodney Hampton, Tim Worley, Terrel Davis, Musa Smith, Thomas Brown and Knowshon Moreno, and, if we could only find one more Frank Sinkwich who accounted for 400 yards of offense in the 1942 Orange Bowl with his jaw wired shut like it was for that whole season, now thats tough. Charley Trippi wasnt bad either. Even though I wasnt old enough to see either Frank Sinkwich or Charley Trippi play I've read and heard about them all my life so they are almost real to me, But, thats old history and we need em now. Buc, I am with everything you have said so far. Defense has played better so far this year, and really thought they did a nice job against USC. Needed to finish better, but they played better. Saw kids wrapping, saw a lot of UGA hats in on tackles.

Overall, I think everyone has improved. I don't think the staff has done a terrible job to this point. There was a lot of inexperience, and it got exposed early.

I am not going to express my true opinion about the coaching staff cause I know how everyone feels, and to be honest, I am going to let the rest of the year happen. If improvements are clear, and we are playing good football, I will tip my hat to this staff. It is hard to work when all you hear about is that you are going to be fired after the year. No he brought in on himself, but it is still a hard time for the guy.

Our defense is fine...don't look at Boise for a sampling because our offense/special teams put our defense in terrible field positions and expected them to keep the #5 team in the country with probably the #1 QB in the country out of the endzone.

Don't look at South Carolina because I'm pretty sure 21 of their points came from turnovers, fumbles, or fake punts. We still let their offense get 24 points on us, but that's not bad when you consider we were defending Jeffrey and Lattimore.

You know......I totally "hear ya" MH and all of US that are in the "mode" of rationalization right now after the losses to BS and USC......probably pretty normal to do this....BUT...

the first thing that comes to my mind is.....you don't see LSU's D or BAMA's D rationalizing anything and they won't because they will shut you down. No excuses come out of those programs and those are the expectations I have for UGA.

NO rationalizing or excuses....we seem to always have some, huh? Shouldn't have!!
