Wartdawg you have my attention . . . .
A little more on my thinking when it comes to what our head coach said . . . . “In The Arena”.
Those that were upset the most with the term I believe were “fans” and “supporters” that actually played the game in the arena. Different levels of both coaching and playing that were and are not happy with the reference.
I also believe that “some” if not “most” of those that are ok with Richt's statement(s) more than likely have not been in the arena.
Read many different sites. It is easy to pick out those that have been in the arena and those that have not, but they can live with comments like the one made by our head coach.
There are many that have not played football, do understand the game, normally they also understand that what was said is being less than honest. I would call it a “cover up”. Protecting ones self.
Bet this. If I am making the amount of money that our head coach is making, probably would be looking for scape goats like he was when making the statement.
Usually hear those that totally support our head coach say things like . . . . “Well, Richt tried to give up some of his salary to his assistants, the powers in Athens would not pay them”.
I say to that, anything coming from the powerful in Athens does not surprise me, they like to keep as much of the money in the vault as they can. Along with that, if I have made “millions” over 15 years, never had a salary under a million dollars in Athens, why wouldn't I make an offer like that. Not going to send me to the soup line.
Amazing how the Public Relations Group turned our head coach into a big time philanthropist overnight.
As long as the “Powerful” in Athens can keep Richt's head above water, nothing will change. Remember this, the “Powerful” in Athens now have ESPN joining forces with them.
There are some that have been around football for a while that not only see what is going on, understand what is going on. Has been that way forever, not likely to change as long as our head coach can bring in assistants that “have been in the arena”.
Could say a lot more, will see where this goes. Do know this, there are some on this board Dawg.com that have been in the “arena” not to watch, played there. Did not sit on the bench like our head coach and offensive coordinator. Fact.
