Interesting. Dove tailed to your last sentence above.

wlayton, guess that is one reason that I continue scratch my head. Forbes has us at 7th, yet I still see some "hording" going on. Fottball is the "Golden Egg" and "wise folks" should not forget that.

Going to say this. Jeremy Pruitt comes in at 850,000 or so. Is Pruitt more valuable to us than McClendon? Where would our last 3 or 4 recruiting "efforts"(?) have landed without our newly promoted Recruiting Director?

Said more than once on this board, scares the heck out of me that McClendon will move to another SEC team. Not for a minute do I not think that any number of SEC universities would jump all over McClendon and . . . . change where the comma is placed between the zeros. Auburn for example . . . . JMO, and some others that I discuss football with.

That is not a shot at Pruitt, it is questioning the "reasoning or lack off" with those in charge of such matters. We seem to be on a roll, but let us not do as some have done in the past when protecting a small lead . . . . call of the Dawgs. I see a McClendon pay raise as being "offensive" meaning that in a good way. Just chirping . . . . :)

Totally agree....they need to pull out the checkbook or we might lose him. Like you said, scary thought.

wlayton, not a doubt in my mind that South Carolina, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida and that is just the beginning of "those that would" offer immediately.

Business that you are in, you understand the difference a "short hesitation" makes when it comes time to move forward. Something along the lines of the "Venus Fly Trap" and the "Fly".

I chirp a lot now, however if McClendon departed Athens solely on a "money issue", there is not a board in existence that could keep me from "sounding off" . . . . short of barring me. Even then I would find a way.

My patience with the Group in Athens was exhausted long ago. All well and good that Richt wanted to share some of his earnings with coaches, if he is not high enough on the ladder to "protect" McClendon and others . . . . ???

Just don't see how "they" can justify NOT paying him more money for the job he has done and also has been such a class act for the school.

His loyalty is unquestioned in my mind.

Just like some "other" areas of question are brought up time and again, the McClendon issue(?) needs to be "out front often".

Think many times before, some of the issues that were allowed to come and go, (disappear) not to be seen again until the football season was/is over. Keep asking, sooner or later someone has to address the question.

One area that I can point to, and many on this board have done the same . . . . over and over . . . . Special Teams. Took years for that important part of football to be "truthfully" addressed in Athens.

An example of the Special Teams needing to be coached extensively. Ask ourselves just how many times Special Teams are on the field when for example if the score is somewhere around 25 to 30 points for each team.

Ekeler interviewing for a job at Georgia, facing the head coach and basically saying, your punt return team stinks. Did not say it quite like that, but . . . . take from that what we will.

Anyone on this board think that the folks speaking up for the Veterans finally got a "real" listening to? Same stuff has been going on for years, took a serious problem to gain entry to those that had over the years turned their backs to the truth.

Buc says this . . . . Mark Richt has had his back turned on the issue of Special Teams forever basically, give or take a year or two out of 13 played.

New blood comes in and the first thing we see is Mark Richt being faced by his coaches, explaining the "need" to have special "Special Teams" in a conference like the SEC.

Some have said and I guess I have used the term a lot, and will continue to do so at different times . . . . . LEADERSHIP.

One more question or statement. What has happened in Athens basically is a defensive turnover. Why did our previous defense not have the same or some of the same thoughts about Special Teams that the new hires do? Thoughts on that statement might answer some questions about a 8-5 Season. More to it than injuries alone. Every team has injuries. 2013 was a brutal year for injuries to UGA, but what about the other years? Excuses do not move a team forward, whether it is in the business world or on the playing field. JMO

Edit:

Here are some statistics that I find interesting, one in particular which I think relates to the Special Teams part of the conversation.

■16th nationally in points per possession
■17th nationally in plays per possession
■13th nationally in yards per possession
■86th nationally in starting field position
■25th nationally in touchdowns per possession
■8th nationally in field goals per possession
■78th nationally in possessions per game
■61st nationally in points per red zone trip

Any wonder why Ekeler mentioned Special Team play to Richt?

CJP if nothing else has brought a light with him to shine on our short comings. The more CMR speaks the more I shake my head, knowing special teams has been on a decline for six years and not doing what it takes to fix it and last year giving up on punt returns by just playing punt safe is ridiculous. The sad thing is what all else is he sleep walking on. On the CBM thing I once quit a job over a token raise just saying.
