FOOTBALL IS OVER . . . .

Take it for what you will, as talented as Stafford was, I never thought he had that "it" that Greene, Shockley and Murray had.
You can still see it in his play, still makes poor decisions.
Don't know who has "it" now.
But give them all a chance.

Yes, open the competition up and let them go at it.

wlayton wrote: Buc....been with you all along on AM. Going with you on Bauta as well.

AM was a bit of a gunslinger early on in his career but you could see the talent and he had the swagger. Not ruling out Bauta getting some playing time next season.

Actually, wlayton you were the one that openly agreed with me when AM first came to campus. Still have that. You did say that he seemed a bit "wild" that was not your word or words, but it captures what you said above.

This is what I believe and have been told by those much more astute than myself. With the talent in Athens right now, it is an almost impossible task for "any" quarterback to fail.

Won't go into the offensive line again, right now. There is "just enough" talent on the offensive line for UGA to be effective. First off, UGA is not the only univeristy lacking great offensive line play. Not every school has leadership that provides that. Some do, and we know who those are and what they have in their trophy cases.

Remember the one statement that Nick Saban made on television for all to hear. Auburn had a great offensive line. If you did not hear that, you had too much wax in your ears.

Sorry, said I would stay away from the offensive line talk. For me that is impossible. Don't give a spit if we have 10 Jeremy Pruitt's, the lacking force is the offensive line. No I do not think that is Coach Will Friend's failure. That also rests with the head coach. Running backs, ok mark richt, all of us know that offensive linemen don't get injured.

There will come a time when some will "understand" we still have a problem in Athens. Not talking about Adams at this point.

VD had (1) one National Championship in x number of years. Thank you HW, and Larry Munson.

How many years will it take for our present head coach. Remember this, close counts in horseshoes. Want to discuss the five (5) yards in ATL?

If UGA and Alabama had played 10 times that season against each other, what do you think the outcome would have been? Alabama had one thing that we did not have and if we had played each other 10 times that season, offensive line would have ruled, think we know which team had the offensive line.

How hard is it to understand that nothing works until the ball is snapped. First movement, offensive line. Our head coach does not understand that. Comes from being a second stringer with a great smile his entire life. I said that.

If ever the truth was told, averagedawg said it in this post.

Allow me this. Stafford was "allowed" to come to Athens with the guarantee that he would be #1. He did not go through what AM did and as averagedawg says, it shows. This was a classic case of mark richt's hands all over the "system".

How far and at what velocity can Stafford throw a football, maybe the best in the Pro Game. Where has that landed him? AM came to Athens, had stiff competition and ended up on top. Faton Bauta, we will see. Has everything that AM has. Learned from AM. I do know that AM believes in Faton. Promise one and all this, game time, Bauta comes to play.

Auburn took a first year quarterback and did what? National television playing for the Crystal. Don't really need to tell me that he did the junior college thingy as quarterback and that aided him. SEC is not junior college. Get real.

I want my team, to move forward, as some have said in this thread, defense will move us forward, but is it enough to satisfy some of us that have been around for (1) Crystal Trophy since the 1940's . . . .

There is so much that can and should be discussed on this board about many "football" things, both pro and con. Pruitt a plus. mark richt . . . . a repeat of the Bowden years in Tallahassee. With one exception, BB was the head coach at FSU and won the Crystal. mark richt?

wlayton wrote: Personally I have always loved the pro set style of offense. Imo, other than getting more depth in the OL, I have zero problem with our production on that side of the ball.

Believe it is fair to say that the offense wasn't our main problem last year.

Wlayton, spot on. I don't care how we managed 37 points per game, the points are what matters. I hope we don;t go chasing the "flavor of the month" offensive scheme. If we score 35 running the AU offense, or 35 running a pro-style, I don't give a rip.

Of all the complaints I have about our team, putting points on the board isn't one of them.

The OL is the missing ingredient.

OK, this is where many of you will call menuts:) But I think Greene was very good, but not GREAT. I don't think he so much had "it" as he had a defense that gave up more than 30 points in a game ONCE while he was there. Under Van Gorder, weheld teams to 10-20 points 90% of the time.

A little easier to win as a QB when all you have to do is roll out 24 points.

Not saying Stafford/AM/Green are the same, different, great, bad, or anythinmg else....I just wonder how would we remember AM and Stafford if they did't have the pressure of having to hit 35 to win.
