The only school we realistically end up chasing year after year is Alabama, all the rest are also rans. I don't see any school, year after year, that fits the "ELITE" status, with the exception of one, Ala freaking bama. Even they have had bad years. I don't consider ohio state as elite, Michigan, no, Nebraska, no, usce, hell no, uscw,no, florida, don't make me laugh, auburn,ta&m,oregon, they are all pretenders. So when it comes to elite only one program stands out Ala freaking Bama, until we start playing with them in our rear view mirror we'll be just like all the rest of those mentioned. Start out with a new DC.

I guess this is for me since I mentioned elite. From yout post I gather that since you only consider one team to be elite that we should not strive to be? Can't agree with that either. Goes back to being happy with being pretty good. Status quo.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

Elite is just a word... it can be interpreted several ways.

It might not be the best word to use as yes, Bama has been and still is until proven otherwise, heads and tails above all others.

I think many would agree on what we mean though.... We want to be a school that achieves results on par with our players abilities, and we don't have that. We want a team that can win a NC when it has NC caliber talent on it. Not many teams can say they have that
level of talent, but several can say that when they had it.. they did something big with it. We've had it, but we darn sure can't say we did as much with it as we should have...

AllDawgs5, haven't heard it mentioned, but here goes . . . .

Our punter has been less than adequate, putting that mildly. One thing that the University of Georgia has always been noted for is a punter. You are and have been since I have known you to be deeply in tune with the Special Teams and of course punting is a part.

Our punter was told to sit in the Kentucky game. That to me added to what we have watched this entire season, he honestly does not fit the mold of a UGA punter. It goes to show again that sometimes our head coach does not know when to pull the trigger. He does this time and again not only with players, same can be said for those that coach. I truly believe that our head coach is a deeply religious man, he is not however the person needed to take UGA forward. Just not in his belly to be a leader overall.

Agree with you about his offensive skills. He would probably be a very good offensive coordinator again. I do believe he would be a better offensive coordinator than grantham is as a defensive coordinator.

Allow me this. Comes back to recruiting and coaching the recruits up. Why can we not pull more talent from the State of Georgia? My answer to that is we don't have the right pieces in place. Disgruntled defensive coach leaves, takes a lateral move to Auburn, and my goodness took several Georgia athletes with him. Very good athletes. Think many of us know that there was a serioud "under tow" in Athens, even though it did not get out until Garner left.

Now I hear that the head coach and the defensive coordinator are not on the best of terms. That should really help our program a lot, right?

Going to be interesting to see which university cleans the mess up first . . . . Georgia or Florida. A lot riding on the outcome. I think.

No Sadlerdawg not meant for you, its been mentioned ,off and on,for the whole length of time I've been around the forum by myself and others, and you might want to look at some of the other posts if you believe that the current state of our program is okay with me. You are right about one thing though, if we get ourselves together and have a program on equal footing with Alabama, that is the way to the top. Read it everyday in some article or the other, tell me another program even close to being all that.

Agree with you growl....will have to say it looks like FSU is headed that way. They have no weaknesses and their athletes are on equal footing with BAMA imo (or close). They have studs in every phase of the game. Jimbo has done a great job of recruiting and with uf crashing, he's licking his chops even more on the recruiting front.

Would love to see BAMA/FSU matchup, if nothing else to see just how close FSU is getting.

This thread is awesome fellas! So many good & valid points written here.

Growl, I really appreciate you pointing out that it is Bama at #1 & w/ALL others chasing including us (a much needed reality check I thought).

For me though, wartdawg summed it up very well stating "We want a team that can win a NC when it has NC caliber talent on it." This line really resonated with me as I have no doubt whatsoever that everybody in here feels the same way regardless of how each of us would go about achieving it.

AD5, I looked up Scott Cochran at your request, VERY IMPRESSIVE resume to say the least...no surprise here though, Saban ONLY hires the best. UGA has the $$$ to hire the best but we don't...that is either on Mark Richt, Mac, the Board, or possibly even, ALL OF THE ABOVE?
