Muschamp -- Jeremy is Watching

If TG is replaced, we have to give up on anyone making a lateral move....

But I betcha dollars to donuts that better than TG could be found by promoting a position coach or getting a DC from a smaller school. There are plenty of FBS schools where UGA would be a major step up... Just probably not guys mentioned earlier from top programs.

sadlerdawg wrote: The whole "replace grantham" thing is frustrating, because as stated (and proven in our last DC search), no great established SEC type DC is going to make a lateral move and we'll be stuck with our 6th or 7th choice again. Now if we had an SEC proven defensive minded head coach(anyone come to mind?), that wouldn't be so much of an issue. Replacing grantham and not richt will just pacify the UGA big spenders for a few years, won't change the big picture at all.

TRUTH. Absolute truth, and nothing but the truth.

Wartdawg, spot on, again.

You're right, WD, but it still wouldn't fix the problem. It would catapult our team from "not bad" to "decent". Not going to get to "elite" or "great" until richt and his coaching philosophies are gone.

sadlerdawg it has been suggested that we tone it down a step or two. Get into the spirit of rah rah football. I read posts that say things like "beating a dead horse" not needed any longer.

Anyone that believes in the Constitution knows better than that. Some say silence is golden. Once we stop closing our mouths and not posting or giving our feelings over and over, the result of that is . . . . we lose.

Those that don't want to keep "beating a dead horse" can simply stay away from those that participate in that conversation. Simple math.

One of the reasons that I started this thread was to get away from the board and have an outlet thread for those of us that do "beat the dead horse".

This is the time of year when the "machine" rolls out their high powered advertising to protect the "status quo". Yes my friends, that does exist at the University of Georgia.

Injuries . . . . Little Georgia Southern (Erk's crew) had more injured players than Florida had, and where did the excuses come from, yep the Giant SEC school squealed like a stuck pig. Georgia Southern took $550,000 home after beating the bullies from Gainesville. Just a pittance of what Muschamp makes annually. Something wrong with that picture?

Now Muschamp is feeling the wrath of the gator folks, after all he promised that he would win against Georgia, promised that. The Florida Machine says they are behind Muschamp, why? What has he done to justify the millions he is being paid? Keep smiling Erk, if anyone deserves it you do. UGA did not think enough of you to keep you. They are willing however to pay the head coach millions and the defensive coordinator close to a million.

Another thing . . . . Why does grantham make more money than Mike Bobo? Seems to me that Mike Bobo has been putting up enough points to allow grantham to give up nearly that many over a long period and win some of the games.

Why is our defensive coordinator making more than other coaches on our team? Because he came in and sold himself as being the man that could win National Championships recruiting within a 5 hour march from Athens. Add to that, every reputable defensive coach that was approached turned our head coach down, as sadlerdawg said. grantham's record did not support a leader of men.

Folks when we shut our mouths, become as quiet as a mouse, we get what we have now. Not even second place. Yes there is a lot wrong with the picture in Athens but the earliest anything "might" be done will be around the year 2017.

Edit: On a lighter note . . . . Wishing everyone a great Thanksgiving. I will and do give thanks.

100% agree w/you wartdawg, lots of great position coaches out there...just gotta find the right one. Our football budget is far from lacking though so again, $$$ should NOT be an issue.

Sadler, you are probably correct too & it is frustrating. It all starts & the top & as Buc mentioned, no changes at Head Coach are likely until 2017.

Still, I don't think UGA should simply accept mediocrity until CMR's time has passed. I WANT us (heck, I EXPECT us) to go after the best men for ALL football related positions & even if us fans don't believe that another SEC Title can be attained w/o a complete staff overhaul, we darn sure better at least attempt to make some positive changes.

Sadler, (& others) do you not think that even with CMR at the helm w/a DC that could do radical things like teach our defensive players sound fundamentals & hold teams to closer to 20 points a game rather than 30 points a game, that UGA could not win another SEC title? Just curious...I believe wlayton stated a while back that he would be OK with CMR at the helm as long as we had dynamic coaches around him which is pretty much how I feel at the present time. Trying to focus on the realistic & changing Head Coaches just doesn't even seem like a remote possibility at this point.

Bottom line for me is this though:
The Gators will change some things this offseason & will likely get at least some improvement as a result (not saying they will catapult to the top of the SEC but I bet the farm their offense doesn't get any worse), question I care most about though is, what will UGA do??? Do we aspire to make the right coaching moves like Auburn did this past year or does our fear of making the wrong moves, like Tennessee, render us paralyzed?

Buc, thanks for the candid responses as always! Really appreciate the good discussion & though we usually are pretty much aligned in our thoughts, it's good to know we can disagree on occasion & still be brothers in our support for all things Red & Black.

Truth Sadler.

I'm not denying that at all. The sad part is that we all know MR isn't going anywhere so I am ready to deal with "pretty good" and be happy with it.
I know what UGA is now.... no pipe dreams about them being something else until the university itself wants to be more.

Goose... I know $$$ is not an issue, but it's still not smart to overpay and I don't think "they" will even though I wish they would do whatever it takes. Yeah we have the money... no doubt. The thing some people outside of us might not get, is that I think the book is out on MR. These top notch guys at top notch programs probably don't want to go to a place with a 2nd tier head man unless it's "stoopid" money, and we're not going to offer stoopid money.

Kirby had a chance to come home... he looked at the state of affairs at his alma matter and politely said... um, no thanks. I know that the response to that will be that it's because he's now with Alabama, but I'll bet you some at places other than Alabama would say no thanks as well.

Heck... we've already seen it. Why do you guys think we ended up with TG in the first place. He was what we could find willing to take the job...... several rebuffed us.

Fact
