I wish Shawn Williams was here to call out this Defense I said this part the rest was from dawgbytes.
Damian Swann was a second-team preseason All-SEC selection by the coaches.
The Georgia junior cornerback is going to need a strong second half of the season to get any postseason honors.
“Damian, I’d say is struggling right now,” coach Mark Richt said. “He’s missed some tackles in the open field and he’s gotten beat on some coverages that have been tough on him. There have been some things that he has struggled with, but he’s also made some plays for us, as well. I think if you asked him, he’d tell you that he wants to perform better and he’s working towards that.”
Swann missed an open-field tackle against Clemson’s Sammy Watkins on a 77-yard touchdown and slipped and fell in coverage on a 48-yard touchdown against LSU’s Kadron Boone.
“When you’re in man-to-man, you’ve got to make a play on the ball,” defensive coordinator Todd Grantham said. “He’s a guy who has a lot of pride in his work. He’s done a good job of leading our team. …He’ll make some plays for us now.”
Coaches have credited Swann for having a strong work ethic. He’s eighth on the team with 18 tackles and has three pass breakups.
Freshman cornerback Shaq Wiggins started his first game at Tennessee. Grantham liked what he saw.
“I was really pleased with the way he tackled in the game,” Grantham said. “He made some tackles that people probably don’t see because he actually gets the guy down and finishes the block.”
Missouri’s tall receiving corps will present a challenge to Swann, Wiggins and Georgia in the form of 6-6 Dorial Green-Beckham, 6-4 L’Damian Washington and 6-5 Marcus Lewis.
Green-Beckham is starting to live up to all that recruiting hype.
“He’s really come on,” Grantham said. “He’s a really good player now, making plays on the ball, going and getting it. He’s really becoming probably what people thought he would be before he played last year.”
