ogredawg, damn good post. Most of your posts and threads are spot on.

If Mike Bobo did not call a single play for AM, would put money on this, would drive the visiting team nuts.

Why? At that point, AM calling the offensive plays, opposing defenses are going to have their hands on their hips, not able to leave the field without a timeout, or . . . . faking an injury. Yes, AM is that good, some don't think so, but would love to see it play out just like that. FACT.

Still would like to see us in a four man front. Don't need a lot of head games as has been evident between opposing coaches. Let the young pups play football. It is about the players, not the money makers. To a point.

Four man front, running yardage by the opposition falls off, maybe considerably. We have the talent to play a 4/3 or 4 anything and change the way this defense looks and plays.

ogredawg, in your camp when calling for man. Example . . . . Shaq Wiggins was touted to be one of the best in the State of Georgia and elsewhere as a coverage man. So?

Go Dawgs! Coaches, relax. A lot of talent wearing the Red and Black.

Green is going to have a super game against Missouri. Take that to the bank.

Believe we are ok against the run....now.

With the D secondary having 4 of the 6 rotating DB's being TRUE freshman and one safety hurt and the other safety a Soph that has very little experience ='s big trouble and that's been what we are seeing.

I agree with ogredawg to play "man" because these pups are totally lost in zone coverage. Sure we might get beat occassionally but believe if they will get in the opposing WR's "grill", they can create more turnovers etc as orgredawg mentioned. These kids are athletes, use their skills.....not zone. Plus, imo, playing man certainly "dumbs it down" somewhat....at least you would know how to line up.

ogredawg may be right about Gurley but I wouldn't play him yet. I would have him dressed out but would hope I wouldn't need him. Last thing we want is him on the sidelines against UF's D.

ogredawg knows football. Probably a pretty good checker/chess player.

When Shaq Wiggins replaced Langley for the Tennessee game, could be that Grantham was beginning to shift his coaching strategy . . . . a little bit. Wiggins has a reputation of being skilled in man coverage. Understand that is high school and camps, but that was what he did in high school.

Comes to UGA and had a problem breaking into the lineup, too much "stuff" for him right off the bat. Takes me back to the playing "slow" that is often mentioned, by our players. Too much thinking, not reacting. Can't play "fast".

From the little I know about football, good cover man or men, gives the rushing defense a much better chance of disrupting the play.

Over the years, both in college and the NFL, think about the defensive backs that gain great recognition. Guarantee is that they are man cover players, not Tampa 2 players. Not really hard to understand. There is a time and a place for mixing up the defense, but overall, most of these young pups coming out of high school are playing in four man fronts with man coverage. There are exceptions, understand that, speaking about majority.

My hope is that Todd Grantham drops what appears to be ego/pride in some of his interviews and maybe looks closer at what his players can do when they play fast. Maybe the insertion of Shaq Wiggins is the first step.

Grantham said, and I will repeat his words, or close. Title football can be played at UGA, encompassing an area of 5 hours in any direction when recruiting. I bought into that, still have hope. Must say this, Grantham can't continue to give up the amount of points as is happening and win championships. Many of his players are from that 5 hour circle. What?

Buc, I swear, you were reading my mind! I was thinking the same thing about man coverage - you know who you are covering, just use your legs to stay with him. You can drop some LBs to help short and use a safety to make sure nothing gets away. Less thought, more athleticism. At least the response time might be a little quicker, and getting LINED UP wouldn't be so confusing! Then hold on tight until someone can get some pressure on the QB.

We are in TROUBLE.
