There is never a good thing to say when young men get hurt. Especially when the injury is not just serious, it has lasting effects throughout life. Both physically and mentally.

I know that sometimes I harp too much to suit some football finatics. Speaking about education, not often do I pass up the opportunity to say sports are great, however get that degree.

First off life in the NFL is usually short, that is when comparing numbers that go to the league and time spent while in the league. Education is a wonderful thing, lasts a lot longer than x number of years playing football.

Well known fact that players are faster, stronger and that starts at a very young age, well before high school. The weight room means a lot, but it means a lot less than putting ones nose in the books. The 1% that don't like to hear that, those that do go to the NFL soon we see their names on the Bankruptcy Journals.

One of the first questions that I heard a reporter ask Mark Richt was the availability of Gurley for next week. They will tell you that they are just doing their jobs. Reporting is like playing football, 99% never make it in journalism, the 1%, well we still get good and bad. Check out some of the mullet wrappers that are still available, and soon to close and send more to look for work. Fact is that few in the School of Journalism end up in the football business. That degree can and will take graduates to true professional work.

Sorry . . . .

I am excited about JJ Green. This young man is a player. We lost some very good players Saturday and found at least one young man that will make us proud. Couple of years back with the injuries we suffered against Tennessee, season would be over. Hearing some of that now. I don't buy into that. What little bit I know about football, this game against Tennessee is stamped on our players minds. This is the SEC and there are many good teams participating.

Have to say at least one good thing about AM. When we had to have a score to tie the game, the sideline had called for a fade route. AM looked and did not like what he saw, changed the play. Results, very good. Goes to show once more, there is more to playing football than knocking someones block off. Smarts, film study, offseason work produced a win against Tennessee. Many young men that play that position would have stuck with the play called. Thanks AM. I said that.

One thing that was on my mind in the Tennessee game was . . . . I sure hope that Tennessee does not win because . . . . Willie is a coach for the Vols. Might take that as being ugly, but from where I sit, Willie had the red carpet rolled out for him in Athens, by Mark Richt.

He did not produce, so . . . . went to Oklahoma, did not produce, so . . . . went to Auburn, did not produce, so he coaches for Jones now. Don't give a hoot what he does the rest of the year, happy, happy, happy that he did not get a W against the Red and Black.

At this point Tennessee is having a good recruiting year, seems that Georgia is doing the same. Looking forward to the Tennessee Volunteers next year between the Hedges.

Some might take this as being ugly, you know me by now . . . . While back we were talking on this board about simplifying the defense. Noticed yesterday that Ramik Wilson seems to be positioning the defensive side.

Comes a time when Todd Grantham either stops some of what is going on or things have to be considered. Not advocating firing Grantham, almost four years in, getting a bit late for a defense that still tends to shake their heads about where they should line up just before the snap. Saw that more than once yesterday.

What I saw Tennessee do yesterday was pin their ears back and get after it. They were "juiced".

OK, we lost some players which makes me sad. Football goes on, have to find out who we have at whatever position and bring this group together. We came through the toughest schedule in the nation first part of the season, speaks well for all involved, including tremendous fan support against South Carolina and especially LSU. Missouri at home, not looking past the Tigers, they are playing good football, and they are aware of what happened in the Georgia/Tennessee game.

Guess that we all can agree that our D is like Swiss cheese and it is going to cost us down the road in the near future.

Trying hard to put my finger on the defense and where and when improvements will happen. Mentioned in this thread earlier it appears that Wiggins has replaced Langley. What is to be said about that? Apparently our defensive coaches saw something that required another look see. Shaq did line up in man, actually did a pretty good job, appears he is a stronger man player than some others.

Herrera is a very strong young man. He will line up and play Dick Butkus, Tommy Nobis football with anyone. He however is not an Ogletree, coverage is definitely not a strong suit. Defensive coordinators worth their salt see that. Will see it against Missouri.

Will not surprise me to see more of Josh Harvey-Clemons playing linebacker. Big frame, speed, football smarts, has an attitude. He is definitely going to be coming off of the edge either weak or strong soon.

Don't take this the wrong way. Really sorry some of our young men got injured. What this promotes is playing more and more of the underclassmen, talent that would otherwise practice against the ones and sometimes twos, then sit on game day. These injuries should and will get the attention that is so important in practice, prior to Saturday play day. Seem to remember someone or two mentioning depth often on this board. Must also say it was mentioned prior to the injuries.

I'm smart enough to know that it's just a coincidence that Marcus Lattimore may have lost his career playing Tennessee. Then KM goes down when a guy went straight at a knee. What makes me start edging in the direction of paranoia is when Michael Bennett goes down with a knee injury on a play when he was untouched. Then Justin Scott-Wesley goes down with a knee injury when nobody even touched him. It caught my attention, because I had heard some talk on the pre-game show that the field was in SORRY condition.

Dr. Tom Samples, the turf professor at UT, is a friend of mine and a good man. He knows how to keep a ball field looking and playing right. It fails my imagination to think UT couldn't go to him and get that field in proper condition. Look closely at the photographs of that so-called football field. It was mostly just green-painted-sand.

Again, I know better than to hint at some sort of bizarre conspiracy - two of our guys weren't touched, and Tennessee had to play on the same worthless football field we did. It warms my heart to know that some of THEIR sorry-@55 players will have to play on that "field" several more times this season - but I'm above hoping some of their players will lose the rest of THEIR seasons because of it.

Still . . .

thriller, good observation. There was talk within my group when we looked closely at the shoe/cleat marks from a sideline shot. Actually looked like walking on one of the beaches where I live. Left the same impression.

When you play on astro turf regularly or what ever it is called these days, makes a difference. Same applies to baseball and football, tall green, low cut green, fields can be and are fitted to the team that plays there.

Going to be interesting to look at our lineup both offensively and defensively against Missouri.

Did I hear some suggestions about letting other quarterbacks and players get on the field against Tennessee to get their reps in? Best I remember, Buc was one of those suggesting that.

Up 17-3 and we decide to sit on the ball, takes me back a couple of years.
