duck, there is only one coach on the staff that I want to see replaced, and if he isn't replaced, then I'll make it two. Bobo-gotta-go-go. And if we don't get rid of him, Richt. That said, that leadership comment works the other way as well. You can have Nick Saban, Urban Meyer and Les Miles on your coaching staff, with Patterson and Peterson thrown in to boot, and you will LOSE if I'm your quarterback. I PROMISE you that, duck. I could not win a D1 game even if Knute Rockne, Bear Bryant and Vince Lombardi all rose from the grave and simultaneously infused me with the greatest football wisdom ever known. I would simply lose. My point?
Against South Carolina, it was the PLAYERS who lost that game. It was NOT the coaches. How many picks and fumbles is a coach supposed to be able to overcome? And against Michigan State, it was Bobo, true enough, but also, like it or not, Aaron Murray, who simply seemed to forget what we were doing in the second half. And a defense that had it's opponent inside their own 15 yard line with 2 minutes in the game. One stop, within an 85+ yard distance, and we won. One kick between the uprights. That wasn't at the feet of the coaches, with the exception of the aforementioned Bobo-Gotta-Go-Go, it was on PLAYERS.
Next year we might lose to Missouri - it's a road game against a decent team. We might lose to any team on the schedule. Is the SEC a tough conference, week in and week out, or is that toughest-conference-in-the-nation talk just a bunch of garbage? We can't have it both ways. Heck, even Alabama, eventual National Champions, took a loss, and did it on their own home turf. So yes, we may well have one or two losses going to Columbia. But we might also be undefeated. But now that I think about it, let me ask a very serious question for everyone . . . maybe this should be it's own thread . . . are 1896, 1946 and 1980 the only seasons in our school history you are "satisfied" with?
I'll answer my own question. I was feeling PRETTY SATISFIED after 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2007, because prior to 2002 I had to go all the darn way back to 1983 to find a season that I was TRULY happy with. But I enjoy Georgia football every single year. From the sounds of it, I may be one of only a few who post here who can genuinely say that, because if you can find me ONE season prior to 2002 and after 1983 (really, 1982) that REALLY makes you puff out your chest with pride, let me know which one it was. Seriously.
But to finish on a note of agreement with you duck, if we keep Bobo-Gotta-Go-Go and we DON'T win the SEC this year, I'm done with Richt too.
