If I have gotten the message that I think he sent, he will tighten the screws another round this coming season. There is not a doubt in my mind that our Athletic Director did not like the outcome of the Outback Bowl. For more than one reason. Any way that I slice the pie, I keep coming back to either mistakes or miscues in the recruiting process. I believe that if Friend has the talented players to coach, he will do his job and do it very well.
At this point in my way of thinking, if the offensive line is only thirty percent or so better than last season, this group of returning backs and receivers will be hard for most teams to stop. Still boils down to the young men that do the dirty work on every play, no time off on the line of scrimmage.
Buc, I really HOPE the OL is 30% better but think with the inexperience we have on the OL, we might actually be worse........at least through the 1st half of the season. The second half of the season and 2013, the OL should be very good.......Friend certainly has his work cut out for himself.
Let's hope we have some great focus and improvement during the spring.
wlayton, guess I am trying to say much the same things you are. These young puppies need a considerable amount of time to get to "know each other". Physically, there is talent ready to play, just that mental part that is so important. Sure hope that Ben's understudy left him in a favorable position at center. Supposedly there is some of that "attitude" that Ben had remaining in Athens.
Said in another thread that I am worried at this point about Avery Young, lots of talk down south about Miami. I was/am hoping that Theus and Young would come in together and go through Spring with Friend. If the running game starts moving forward, this could as you say be a better than average offensive line by the end of the season. Friend has to have a much better feel of the talent he has around him with another year under his belt. Read elsewhere that Theus said he is ready, left or right tackle. For sure Theus is coming to play, that is heartening. This offensive line could be a huge surprise before the year is over.
Edit: Also read somewhere that Theus and Marshall would be rooming together. Like that a lot.
