Reunite or rebuild

GooseDawg78 a thread truly worth reading and not skipping to the bottom. A lot of feeling put into this piece of work and I appreciate that . . . a lot.

If the question had been asked prior to the Vandy game there would probably be some different answers.

The post by WoodstockDawg brings up a point that really makes this a hard sell for Richt staying. A coach sits in the living room with the family and recruits a young fellow. It is well known that Richt is a man of faith, and it is also well known that is one of the recruiting points that plays favorably with some of the prospects. NO, I do not doubt Mark Richt's faith.

The dark side of that last paragraph is Richt's actions in the Vandy mess. Truthfully he looked like a man caught in an undertow and went back on what he has said in the living rooms of these players and their families. On film saying what he did about one of his players shows me just how stressed out Mark Richt is. Not a single doubt in my mind about that statement.

We can't have it both ways, and all of us have reached that fork in the road at one time or another. We had to make a decision. Richt has needed to make a decision in several instances for far too long and he just seems lost. That is not low rating the man, I am just saying that there comes a time in all of our lives that those tough decisions have to be made.

One thing that sticks in my mind Goose is the early meeting that McGarity and Richt had when our new AD came on board. Apparently McGarity had come to the same point that many of us are right now. He told Richt to drop all of the things that were holding him back and he would take care of them. What that says to me as a one time business person, you are not a decision maker, your talent or talents need to be focused on one thing, football at the University of Georgia.

Amazing thing happened after that meeting. Richt hit the recruiting trail fast and hard. Made several inspiring talks about what he and his coaches were going to do. The outcome of that meeting with McGarity in my mind, the Dream Team. McGarity got Richt focused on his job.

My major concern now is whether or not the team will play for Richt in JAX. I know that they should be focused on the task at hand, just as I mentioned above about McGarity getting Richt to focus on the task at hand.

If our football team comes away playing like they did in Memphis, with the offensive line giving up after the three point efforts, all of us will probably need some mental jousting. The mind set of our coach and team at this point is bothersome to me.

Mark Richt needs to find himself and I don't think he will be able to do that in Athens as our head coach. I know things will be disrupted for a while, but Richt needs to move on. If I thought for one instant that he is the man to turn this program around, would say so. I just do not see the needed focus that McGarity asked for.

I apologize for being so long, had to check your post out more than once and think about it before posting. Thanks again for a quality post.

Go Dawgs! JAX is calling. . . . .

When I first started posting here, some of the first few comments I made about Richt was that
my preference was for us to figure out a way to succeed with CMR. I know the grass isn't always
greener on the other side, and the best possible hire may come in wanting to do something
completely different. He may want to install a completely new offense, and may not like CTG
and his 3-4. This could result in 2-3 year learning curve where AM and our boys on defense
have to learn a new style. Worse case scenario which could happen is that we hire the wrong
guy to replace him, and it takes 3 more years of suffering before we face the same issue
again.

I don't want us to go through what Tennessee has gone through.

If Richt could somehow pull us together, then I would unite... but it must be said that I
don't root for any particular coach. I root for the program. Ace Ventura could be the coach
for all I care, so I'm not going to draw some line in the sand on CMR. I don't really care
if our coach has a vagina, or if he has broccoli growing out of his head as long as he, she,
or it gets the job done.

I think if we all just remember that we are rooting for the program, then uniting behind
success is all that matters. If that success can come with CMR, then who cares? It's the
success we all want. I don't have to love CMR or any particular coach to be united behind
success. He doesn't have to win me back on a personal level. Acceptable success has to win
me back. I don't really care who brings it. If CMR brings it, then I will unite behind him
and his staff. I would hope the rest of Bulldog Nation would feel the same way because that
is what we all ultimately want. The only question I have is can he do it?

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Good post Buc...

The thought about him having to go into the parents living rooms now, was not one I thought about. I know if he was in my living room I would have to ask him about the Vandy situation and make sure he would never be able to say any thin derogatory about my son.

Just sayin...

WoodstockDawg, I am afraid that there will be a lot of second guessing and questioning as you suggest above.

Richt had one of those moments that all of us have had in our lives that are hard to shake and probably never forgotten. Said earlier, it is apparent to me that Richt needs to move away from the game and collect himself. I don't hate Richt, simply don't feel comfortable with him as the leader.

Wartdawg said it right when he mentioned it is about the team and the University of Georgia. That I feel is what Richt needs to come to grips with.

More than once in my life I backed away from some things that had the possibility of furthering me personally and financially. Messed up a couple of times, but learned from it. That is my point, I am not sure Richt has learned from some of his mistakes. Not going to rant, just a concerned UGA supporter in more ways than one.

Go Dawgs!! Muschamp said what?

Some great post everybody, it seems we or most all feel the same way. I don't think CMR can turn this thing around, and that he is now losing is cool. For the past couple of years things got out of hand with the arrest and dismisals. He (CMR) has not been able to motivate the players as he should with out gimicks. To me you play for UGA and if you can not get fired up playing Fla, Alb, ect then you don't need to be playing football. Another problem I see, if that we can not beat the upper teams in our league or from other conferences. I mean when is the last time we beat a top 25 team.

I like most said it is time for CMR to step back look at his self and be honest with himself as to wether he wants to do this job any longer. If his heart is not in it or he can't figure out how to get these kids ready to play, then he needs to resign. I have stated on other threads, I doubt seriously that we will beat FLA. We are on a win streak and Fla on a losing streak. On of these streaks has got to come to an end, and history usually goes with us a to breaking the streak.

This group of players has played better at times than the other teams, but I just don't see that 100% commitment for every player to want to win. The OL to me sucks, being the size they are, they should make holes for at least 15 tro 20 seconds.

I guess the bottom line is how do the players feel about CMR throwing them under the bus on TV, will they play for him or lay down on him. Time will only tell, but win out or lose, I personally think that it is time for CMR and BOBO to go.

A good thread to read i have read everyones response word for word. I too believe we have a divided fan base while Richt is coaching. WIth me personally I supoort Richt, I believe he has done A LOT for this football program, but now is he hurting the program or helping it? My gut feeling is that he is hurting this program, but i do believe we have all the pieces fr a national championship team, but we are missing one crucial piece OFFENSE. I do believe Buc made a thread that said do you think Mark Richt could take us to a national title. I do believe he can, but not with Bobo's aid. Look at how much talent we have on the offensive side of the ball ( excluding the O line). It makes me wonder how Georgia cannot score 30+ points a game with the amount of talent we have here. Richt, you fired martines and got yourself a D that rivals some of the best in todays college football, why not do the same with the offensive?

Also the point was made that in the last year of the Phil Fulmer era at Ten. the players were divided as well, Richt calling your players dumbasses on national tv is not going to make your players want to play for you, they are not going to want to save your job. I for one would say " If your going to throw me under the bus, you are coming with me."

I said after the South Carolina game that i would wait to see what happens in JAX. Richt if you cant break this curse that has been in your career since you the first time you stepped on the field in JAX. then you don't need to stay. This year should be Georgias year to win the East, then build from there. Win the East go to a respectable bowl game, fire Bobo, get yourself a new Offensive Coordinator and start building up that last piece this team needs to be a great football team next season. Oh and while I'm on it get yourself a decent Special Teams coach bc if i see one more fake punt working this year I might just throw my television out of the window.

I think throughout the remainder of this season we should show to Richt and to our football players that we are behind them as long as they can continue to win.
