wlayton, Clowney reminds me so much of Simeon Rice that played for the Tampa Bay team when Tampa won the Super Bowl. Simeon was a great pass rusher, there is a reason for that. Warren Sapp played team ball and Rice got those sacks. Could be wrong, but I think I see some of the same traits between Rice and Clowney, they love those sacks, but cannot defend against the run. A really good offensive coordinator will see that and expose the "wound".
Simeon Rice was listed at 6'5" and weighed 260. I never bought the 260, and if you take a good look at Clowney, it will be hard for him to take his weight to 260 and be the same DE he was in high school.
This is what thriller said and I totally agree. The statement below is what I was referring to when I said we have those on this board that can contribute . . . . because they do understand the game.
If I had to coach against Drew or Clowney, I would run the ball right at them. Send a 330 pound guard at full speed at 'em, and see if they can solve that "mass times velocity" equation well enough to still bring down my 210 pound junior running at 4.5 speed. Aaalllll game long. IMHO, very few freshmen can make THAT transition. On the other hand, remember that the reason the SEC is the UNDISPUTED best, is because of the Clowneys and Drews (and Crowells)!

Some have probably seen this, tomorrow, the 17th, it will be all over the blogs. Appears that CTG has found his replacement for Coach Belin. Hope it works, one thing for sure, Kirk Olivadotti is seriously connected with the NFL. Your call CTG.

Great news Buc!
Thanks for the info...After reading your post, I just found about 3 or 4 different web-sites confirming that Kirk Olivadotti is indeed heading to Athens to join forces w/CTG & bring back the vaunted Junkyard Dawgs Defense!
The Redskins have had a nasty defense for the past decade, disfunctional ownership has plagued the once proud bunch from OUR nation's capitol for too long now. As for our beloved Dawgs, it's past time to see some slobber-knocking applied to any opponent who dares come across the middle against the mean machine in Red & Black!
GO DAWGS!!!

Nice informative thread......
Coach T will get it done.....on both sides of the ball..........conditioning was not there in the 4th qtr. Saw a lot of "hands on hips" from the D front in the late stages of the 4th qtr last year.........the play of Jenkins and the ILB's on stopping the run will make or break the D

ogredawg, you are so right about Jenkins and the ILB's. As good as we hope that Jenkins is or will be, still concerned a bit about backup. Know that we will get into the 4 man front, probably a lot, but would love to see Geathers step up and be a solid middle man. Just not real sure about Bean any more. Personally think that the last two or so years of coaching did not live up to expectations. More and more I agree that Coach T will take care of his duties.
