A View of Football

Reading a lot of opinions on the internet, about UGA football and the surrounding bad asses in the SEC.

DE Clowney got his piece of media, however must say this. At his day of commitment, he did the same thing that IC did at his moment of truth, going to a certain school, both did not mess around as some have when committing. These young men know that they have talent, as we all do. Time to play football, and these two guys will.

Throw this out for what it is worth. Now these young football players step up, not just a level, but from high school, who knows how many levels A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA. The guys are going to play in . . . . Excuse me, America’s Conference, where the MNFC is dominated by the SEC. Most of the Nation knows where the best football is played, we, on this board and other boards and blogs have known for more years than we can count.

My opinion we move on to the next step. Great recruiting class for us this year. Makes me proud, proud for this reason . . . . . Ready for this . . . . Do we have the coaching staff in place that can take these young men to the SEC LEVEL? This is what I (think? I know). In Athens, right now as I type this, there is enough talent to play with any school in our conference, that is not based on a “Dream Team” that is based on talent alone. If the “Dream Team” is that good, they would start at every position that they were recruited for. Right?

Allow me this. How much better is Clowney than Drew? Number 1 and Number 2 if you follow the jive asses out there rating high school players. Is #1 better than #2 by say 10%, 20% or more. Is their rating based on the competition they faced in high school? Did both players stand up to the same competition?

One factor that I like is #2 playing in a 3/4. Drew is willing to play a TEAM game. Personally will take a point or two away from #1 because he wants to play in a 4/3. That does not mean that I would not want Clowney signing with UGA, that would have been awesome. Appears to me that he wants to come off of the edge and get that “recognition” for the next level. Nothing wrong with that, except . . . . . Are we playing TEAM ball or ME ball. Listen, this cat (Clowney) might end up being the greatest thing ever. I don’t buy it, at this point for one reason . . . . Speed does kill, but smash mouth football might get this young man’s attention. Hard for high school teams to game plan for one player, by that I mean in the SEC there is a lot of talent on most football teams. UGA, Bama, LSU, UF, AU and others KNOW WHO AND WHERE YOU ARE. Neither Drew or Clowney are playing against the same competition week after week . . . . This is the SEC.

Personal message to folks on this board. I am guilty as many are in this request that I am making. It is easy for all of us to get excited about the things that are going on around us. YouTube and other blogs live on all of us pulling up their information. One of the reasons that I became attached to this board was because there was open talk among us. Not repeating what others have said on youtube or other blogs. Steve and his crew did a good job of building this site, that is not kiss ass. Nothing wrong with using the youtube on occasion, or another blog, but for ME, it means so much more when the Brothers speak, not the other blogs and youtubes. Don’t mean to hurt feelings, this is a great site, it is one person’s opinion.

Clowney will be a player.
What impresses me about Drew is his commitment to the team concept.
I'll take Drew over Clowney.

For some reason averagedawg, Drew's speed had slipped past me. Did not know that he was in the 4.7 area. This young man now gets to "huddle up" with our new S&C coaches, will be interesting to watch his development. Lots of fire supposedly coming from Coach T, all of us have seen the clips of Coach G and his approach to firing up these young men. Defense has a really good chance of being better than good. Get the needed leadership on the field combined with coaching leadership, pretty good combination. SEC just gets tougher :)

Why do I love football so much? Is it the hitting? The adrenaline rush of that first kick off? Watching a DE come unblocked and freight train an opposing QB? The overall strategy? Should a duck analyze why it loves water?

Buc, you and the other guys on this site keep the off season, which I hate almost as much as orange, interesting.

If I had to coach against Drew or Clowney, I would run the ball right at them. Send a 330 pound guard at full speed at 'em, and see if they can solve that "mass times velocity" equation well enough to still bring down my 210 pound junior running at 4.5 speed. Aaalllll game long. IMHO, very few freshmen can make THAT transition. On the other hand, remember that the reason the SEC is the UNDISPUTED best, is because of the Clowneys and Drews (and Crowells)!

Joe T. is my wild card this year. I truly believe that if our O line and our RBs had been properly conditioned and strengthened last year, 3 of those losses would have gone the other way - specifically, UCF, Colorado and UF. Heck, let's be honest - South Carolina is in there too. Seriously - looking at how those games were lost, strengthen our line and RB play, and I truly think we win all of them. And if I had feathers I WOULD be a duck (that's my nod to all of you out there saying the old "ifs and buts" cliche). Never take yourself and your hindsight too seriously. :silly:

Remember how sorry last year was? Well it still has NOTHING on 1979. And you remember what followed 1979, don't you? That's right. 1980. I'm just saying.

Anyway, keep it up Buc! Get us to September, Big Brother!

Clowney is a defensive Lattimore and will have a good freshman year.

Drew is a beast as well......I'd take either. Coaching will ultimately decide who's better.

What a way to start a season, Boise and USC.
One thing's for sure, we will know early how good we are.
