CMR came within 1:30 of getting fired

wlayton, not sure that I can enlighten you, but will start with this.

Less than seven games back there were many on this board that were worrying about the play calling on the offensive side.

Best I can remember, and sometimes I am not good at that, you were the one that wanted Whipple from Miami on board. I agreed with that, and added Brother-in-Law Johnson to the mix. Will go back and check the posts, want to be sure that I am right on that statement.

Whether or not and in what context the posts were made, they were made. That would be in my mind not agreeing with the offensive play calling when suggesting replacements.

UGA has put a lot of points on the board recently, don't disagree with that. Not sure who is calling the plays. Mentioned in another thread that it was noticeable that MB was hanging a lot closer to Richt on the sidelines. That was right after the seat did get hot for someone.

Richt made the statement last night when asked if Bobo would be replaced and he said no. He did not say that he would remain as offensive coordinator. Maybe he returns to QB coach as some have suggested on this board.

Richt also said that UGA needs a big man in the center for this defense. Grantham said that from the get go. Richt has had many years to put his plan into place, Grantham has had one, and that one was with WM's recruits as defensive coordinator. Grantham might turn out to be a bust, hope not, some of the jobs and folks he has worked for indicate to me that he understands football. You, me and others pick Saban over Richt when asked on this board. Grantham schooled some under Saban and other notables.

Just a thought or two wlayton.

Trying to remember, but did MR not play the same cards last year towards the end about WM. Thought I remember him saying things to indicate no changes were on the horizon on the defensive side, then it happened. We all know he handles things behind closed doors, respectfully and conservatively.

I want to see two things first thing after this debaucle of a season ends on the offensive side. IC becomes a Dawg and a new OC. Once the second one happens we won't have an ex RB coaching receivers and an ex reciever coaching RB's. That one always has me scratching my head.

LA.......imo, CMR sounded pretty definite about ZERO changes for 2011. As much as I have promoted getting Mark Whipple from UM (and NOW we can), based on the offensive #'s, I don't believe CMR is going the same route he did with Martinez.

Yes Buc, I was the one wanting Mark Whipple. I think he is one of THE premier OC's in the country. All I'm saying is once they "broke in" AM and turned him loose (with the WHOLE offense), the offensive #'s are pretty hard to argue against. The last 7 games averaged 41 ppg.....I'll certainly take that every year. Simply stating the case that the offense ISN'T the problem.

Had I rather have Whipple as OC....YES. But to try and argue against our OFFENSIVE production.....I have a hard time trying to make a case.

Kinda like owning a Porsche but "could have a Ferrari". Can't argue with owning a Porsche but if I can afford a Ferrari, why not get it?

Point taken wlayton, guess everyone on this board has an opinion and get to the solutions the best way we know how.

This board seems to be about 50/50 on many, not all threads.

I cast my vote for a new OC, if not, nothing to do but ride this horse all the way around the track.

Say this again . . . Grantham has the credentials, I can't say that I feel that way about Bobo. We will know a lot more when this recruiting cycle is over.

I can't believe when GT called their last timeout, CMR didn't tell the RB's NOT to score if they were being allowed to run free to the goal line. Run to the 5, take a knee and get a fresh set of downs......GAME FREAKIN OVER MARK !!!!!!!

If we had lost that game in overtime, with THAT coaching blunder, I would have fired CMR on the spot !!!!!!

Absolutely no excuse in not coaching up the offensive players in that scenario.

Buc.....let me be clear.

I'm certainly not happy with some of the decision making that has gone on and have ALSO been critical at times of CMR.

I'm not a fan of Bobo either and had rather have MW. Just wonder if CMR was behind most of the play calling the second half of the season. Look no further than that 4th and goal when CMR ran out on the field to call a timeout because he didn't like the play call. I'm ok with CMR calling the plays but just think a team operates better with the HC being the HC not the OC as well.....therefore get Whipple.

Really like CTG too but face it, school's still out on him. Aggressive, yes......results, no.

Would like NOTHING more than to see CMR--HC......MW--OC......(ok)Bobo--QB coach.....CTG and his current staff on the D side.

My only previous point was simply, the D was still the culprit again this year.

Some where in this old brain of mine it keeps coming back to the problem that Richt had releasing WM. I am from the old school, both in business and my love for football, especially UGA football. If the wheels come off, junk it and get on with the work at hand.

I know that the business you are in you have to make quick decisions many times, it has to do with a lot of money. You need to be right, not playing the maybe game. Lose clients that way. Same applies to Richt as far as I am concerned, don't need the brotherly love at this point, just make the necessary decision and move on. UGA also wants those dollars. (Fans)

When Richt changed the play on fourth and goal, he improved a bit in my eyes.

Must say this, Richt knew when Grantham was hired that they would be installing a new D. Richt had a choice at that point. There were a lot of folks that would have taken the D job. For Grantham to land in Athens and get paid at least 750,000 American Dollars, someone or more than one person felt that Grantham was the man.

I agree with you that the D has had an awful time, did not expect it to be as slow coming along as it has been. It goes to show us what coaching is all about. Grantham coached his butt off and in my opinion, made huge strides. Anyone that thinks that AU, Ark and others won't put points on the board, simply don't understand the game. Can't explain UF, guess they are in our heads.

Another point, if AM was not hard headed, and he is, had he waited to do some of the things that Bobo wanted done his way, that ppg average would not look like it does now. That is a fact. I believe that Richt has been more than involved with the play calling. If we don't get a top notch OC, would love to see Richt calling the plays. He understands that part of football real well.
