Thinking about the past.
Seems there was always a lot of talk about quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends on occasion.
Throughout the past 5 or so years, heard little about the offensive line.
Now when any of the more prominent media groups speak to what is being done in Athens, seems that offensive line talk dominates their coverage.
Reading and listening to what they have to report now, one would think that they knew all along this was a major problem in Athens. Really?
Mentioned not long ago that I can only imagine what our quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends could have accomplished if only more attention had been paid to detail. Detail meaning the offensive line.
Maybe this bothers me more than many, it however does.
Takes me back to Smart and Company. Need do nothing more than to look at his hires. Kirby retained a couple of defensive coaches that needed to remain in Athens.
Kirby totally changed the makeup on the offensive side of the ball. What really impresses me with his choices . . . . Kirby has lined up against some of the offensive coaches with his defense while in Tuscaloosa. Who better to know what was needed in Athens than a man that has the experience gained through combat. Yes, SEC football is combat.
Still read some of the scribblings from the media and those that still are in the previous camp that lasted for fifteen (15) years. Yes, I know that is past, never hurts to move forward and embrace the future. At this point in Georgia Football, I would wager we are about 90/95% on board with Smart and Company. Even though we have yet to play a game with this staff.
Appears to me that many of the higher rated athletes in Georgia feel the same way about the new staff. How do I know that? Read it almost every time a recruit speaks . . . . UGA needed change. When the recruits feel as they do, hard for old timers like myself not feeling the same.
What I am hoping for is this . . . . attention to detail. From where I sit, that has been missing for too long.
Go Dawgs . . . . Welcome home Kirby.
