Getting a new football coach is like buying a lottery ticket. You got some new hope. I get aggravated when I stop at the quick stop to get a pack of nabs and there are three or four folks buying lottery tickets. I just take a deep breath and wait my turn...

One thing for sure Scooby . . . . There are risks and there are calculated risks.

More and more I hear about those that played football for UGA "being heard" and we see the results of what I would call "Smart Football". Yes, pun intended.

More to come, much more.

Well, I hope you guys have a big year. It was definitely time for a new coach in Athens.

If you do win big it will be because of the new coaching staff. If you don't it will be because of the old coaching staff. That will be the thinking for sure.

My prediction is losses to Tenn and Ole Miss. Close wins at UNC and Florida. No other close games. I think UNC could sneak up and beat you guys...but not calling for it.

Buc, just looking at the final recruiting standings and UGA had the number 5 recruiting class. The better Kirby does at recruiting, the better coach he will be, lol.

If memory serves me correctly, the 5 star means top 35ish prospect, 4 star means top 250ish, and 3-star top 750ish. You see Bama with 5 5 stars, 15 4s, and 3 3s. I say the Saban process is more recruiting than coaching.

Edit... Good article on the rating system...

Scooby, if we were still under the management of our past head coach, not sure we would beat UNC.

Those that follow football closely enough understand that UNC went under a "major" coaching change also . . . . again. While they have had some problems with their hires, UNC understands that at some point football is important to the program. Basketball, understood. Football is the craze, especially college football this day and time.

UGA, had become "stale". Those wanting to enlist Richt for another 15 or so years began to get the message. Message was a very simple one . . . . old timers, players and those that contributed heavily and often to the program said enough is enough. Bruised feelings belong to those that cannot accept reality.

Opening against UNC in Atlanta, there is not a doubt that the place will be rocking. There will be a lot of Blue in the seats, every seat available to the Red group will be sold out . . . . "quickly". 93k in Athens proves to me and some others that "change was needed".

Not to be mislead, there are some very good football players on the roster in Athens. Hell, who knows, might even throw the football to one or more of the stable of tight ends during the game.

Here is where I am at . . . .

We got more than a head coach. We got several coaches that have the same way of coaching that Kirby has. Better than that, Kirby got some coaches that he knows will improve all facets of Georgia Football. Team mean coaches, players and Mahogany Row staying the hell away from "progress".

UNC is for real, some of us are aware . . . . Smart and Company know that to be true.

Took us 100 or so years to understand that offensive lines "count".

Are we rebuilding, don't think so. Too many young men that play the game well are on our roster.

Can Smart and Company turn UGA Football into more than a "good team"? First effort to get 93k butts in Sanford Stadium worked . . . . who "truly" would have thought that would happen? Truthfully think that.

Much to be posted, more to come.

Go Dawgs :)

Scooby read the article, thanks.

The subject has been discussed on Dawgs.com before.

This is where I stand, and some others, I think.

There are some true outstanding athletes in every sport.

Not to be forgotten is the bottom line . . . . "money". Many of the talking heads and beat reporters have to stir the pot to move their "personal" fortunes forward. Requirement from the top.

Current article out for anyone to read about Lorenzo Carter. Could have played for any college football team in the country. Carter now says that he understands there is a process and he found out during his Sophomore year that high school reputations are just that.

Kirby basically has said during the Spring that Lorenzo has the tools, he must use them the way "team football" is played. Kirby said Carter has to be a part of team play and his talent will show itself. Many young men in Athens that want to play on Saturdays.

Leadership shows up in many different ways, in many different areas.
