Welcome Class of 2015

Pruitt did an outstanding job his first year at defensive coordinator. I know that some of the things I watched, had not seen before, and folks that covers a lot of years.

There were changes made by grantham also. Can't deny that, although I would like to.

grantham in his own little way changed the way that many before him wanted to line up. The one thing that grantham required was finding a mammoth man to play defensive nose. Some call them tackles, call it anything that suits self, grantham wanted NFL bodies on the UGA Dline.

Simple enough if we look close "enough". Big bodies can be found, and are good for x number of plays, but without "depth" big bodies are just that, big, tired, bodies before the game is over. Young big men that have not trained as long or as in depth as an NFL player, cannot expect the same results.

Back to Pruitt. Man wants speed, but has realized that speed alone will not win the battles in the SEC. Not every day that a Trenton Thompson arrives and he is not the only one with a big body in this 2015 recruiting class. There are several "puppies" in this class that will never reach the weight that some of grantham's defensive linemen reported to campus weighing. Bet this . . . . they will stop the run more effectively and for longer periods of time than those that grantham hung his cap on.

There is no doubt in my mind that Pruitt and Company are building a defense that will not only make me happy, he will make Schottenheimer's stay in Athens a lot more enjoyable than his previous stay in St. Louis and New York. Good defense makes an offense sometimes look better than it might actually be. That last sentence works both ways.

Will there be some some in this class that will pout, yep. If not, we have recruited a gold mine of talent. Pruitt and Company will play every one of these recruits, if they understand who the leader is and don't forget it when the game is over on Saturday and report for practice the following week. These defensive coaches men you either practice full tilt, or . . . . there is a young man wanting to play the following Saturday before fans and friends. That was proven to be the case in Pruitt's first year. Door is open, or door is shut . . . . up to each man.

Mark Hocke Director of Strength & Conditioning came for one reason, Pruitt dialed his number, just like Will Friend dialed Jeremy Pruitt's number.

Have read a couple of comments from others that don't think Pruitt is "all that". All I can say is this . . . . I love it when "I" am right. Don't need to read the tea leaves on Jeremy Pruitt, young man not only loves football, he loves "molding" young talent in "his" system. Anyone doubt that Pruitt does not have total control?

Going into the 2015 Season knowing what to expect from the defense. Said before, I don't know that much about Schottenheimer's way of doing things offensively, knew much more about his Father who was an excellent head coach . . . . had one problem, could not win the games that cost coaches their livelihood.

May be my last words on Joquan Smith. Georgia could be an even better team with you wearing the Red and Black. Don't however doubt this . . . . there are a lot of very talented players in Pruitt's system now that understand what the defensive coaches want and expect. With all of your high school talent, much different than playing in the SEC. Still believe you have a better chance to play sooner by signing up with TAM and Chavis, they need your help, more than we do at this point. Wish you well.

Coach'em Up!

Richt, leave the coaches alone, they were hired for a reason. Main reason . . . . reach heights that you have not reached as a head coach. Not being ugly, being truthful.

Interesting comments here by Jacob Eason...

Pay attention to what he says about coming to Georgia.. shot at early playing time, and then he mentions starting in his first year. I wonder if that's 2017 after a redshirt, lol. Some other kids already here might have something to say about that.

I miss the quote feature right now.. it would make this easier..

Buc.. you said something about how you can't deny you saw Grantham make some changes as well...

Lost in the vitriol is the fact that no one is all bad. Ultimately Grantham failed as a teacher in my opinion, but at least he challenged this passive reactive weak attitude that had permeated our D.

You also noted that about college kids not being trained yet like the NFLers, and that is a great point about another of Grantham's failures.. he didn't seem to understand the differences between the NFL and College. He went with his starting guys the whole game till their eligibility ran out... the kids weren't always up to that work load, and there was no one ready to step in with real experience when they left. Man didn't quite understand the whole 3 year turnover thing in college.

Wartdawg you and I are on the same page.

Impossible to be around football as long as grantham and not know x's and o's. That in my opinion has been one of the main issues discussed on this board.

Recruiting and teaching will always fit in the same box. Excuse me . . . .

Two defensive coaches that profess to like a 3/4, although watching their sides of the ball play in many games, 3/4 is nothing more than numbers.

Sorry, if anyone on the internet that posts, or fans that go to the games or watch on TV don't see a difference in grantham and Pruitt's way of teaching, not much more can be said.

There were some that jumped all over Pruitt about needing big bodies in the middle, the grantham way. Same folks that were not happy when as you say Wartdawg, the big bodies ran out of "air".

What really amazes me is the thought that Pruitt upon arrival could turn a "mess" into something special. Pruitt works hard, Pruitt knows x's and o's, main feature that I like and approve of is . . . . Pruitt is a teacher. A teacher with a slanted opionion . . . . HIS. For those that don't think Pruitt is the "answer" there will be a lot of time to discuss that this season, 2016 will be the year that we "know".

Thought our defense looked pretty good against Louisville. Also watched our offense without Mike Bobo move quickly against the grantham defense in a "no brainer situation" score a touchdown. Watched that happen when grantham was our defensive coordinator.

As all of us know, there is a major difference between NFL bodies and college bodies . . . . same applies to high school players entering college. With our new S&C coach, expect to see even greater improvement in bodies and "air" in the fourth quarter.

There has been and continues to be "change" in Athens. Needed change. Copy cat league. Right now it appears that we are copying a winner . . . . Alabama. Check where our coaches learned much of what they will teach in Athens. For those that want to "whine" about Alabama, I suggest this . . . . you stick with the Mark Richt plan, you know the plan that speaks for itself . . . . "on the football field".

Happy Tuesday . . . . :)

On yahoo sports this morning they had an article about Smith, where his HS coach now says
he will not sign a LOI with anyone, and we will know where he is going when he enrolls.

Then on the other hand the kid said one of his big deals was wanting to play early. Actually I
think his decision to not sign a LOI is going to make it very hard for that to happen.

If he is getting advice from someone, he needs to change his inner circle.
