Welcome Class of 2015

9 years 9 months ago #66655 by Buc
Wartdawg, thanks. I read a lot but can't remember reading this particular article.

Watching Pruitt, seems he "learned" a lot under Nick Saban. Can see it translating to Athens. Don't really like to make a comment like this, do however believe we are one LOI signing day away from being special on defense.

Sales got the message from Saban also. ;)

Rankings do miss on players from time to time, but anyone who says they dont care at all about the number of stars by names is just all wet.

The best teams in the country are usually near the top of the class rankings except for
some cases like UGA where we have a head-coach-them-down issue. Ole Miss made a huge jump in
the class rankings and a year or two later they made a jump in results.

Of course there are misses and some love to jump up and down and yell I told you so when the
rankings do miss on a player, but they are right a lot of the time. I have yet to see
Saban go out and recruit a bunch of 2 and 3 star players instead of 4 and 5 because he loves their grit.

The real issue comes down to relativity.... is a 3 star with heart, desire, and maturity better than a 4 star with an attitude? That is where the battle is truly decided. That..and what you
do with them when they get on the practice field.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

All in all, CMR and crew put together an excellent recruiting class. I'll admit, watching our ranking fall from #3 to #10, with recruits decommitting left and right was disconcerting, but a lot of 11th hour, hard work assembled a great group to fill some extremely vacant and overlooked holes! To that end, I'll tip my hat to CMR and his crew for an outstanding job!....Now COACH them!

As with every recruitment period, "human interest" stories often follow to fill the void left behind the smoke and mirrors of NSD. This year I'm seeing an interesting and exciting commonality among many of our recruits. Check out the below linked articles to see what I am referring to.

Kirby Choates And His Family Will Remind You Why National Signing Day Is Awesome

Rivals posted this cool interview with defensive back signee Kirby Choates and his family following his emotional signing today. If you aren't rooting for this guy, I don't know what to think about you as a person. As his mother notes, he'll be the first in his generation of his family to go to college. His dad is thrilled to be driving to Athens to see his son play ball, and sounds like he'd be headed toward Clarke County tomorrow if he could..... more .....

Q&A With Bulldog QB Commit Nick Robinson

I had a chance yesterday to catch up with Nick Robinson, the talented southern California quarterback who will be joining the Georgia football team as a preferred walk-on this season. With Brice Ramsey getting solid snaps as a redshirt freshman, Jacob Park turning heads on the scout team during his own redshirt year, and 2016 pledge Jacob Eason ranked at the top of his position for the upcoming class, many assumed that Georgia wouldn't take a QB in this class. When news of Robinson's commitment broke,.... more .....

Did you see it?...It's a refreshing concept, one that I hope continues. It now rests in the hands of CMR and his Coaches. Recruiting talent has never been a issue for UGA. In fact, thrillers article link makes it abundantly clear that UGA ranks at the highest tier in recruiting....So, Coach Richt lets see what you do next......

Buc, I read this morning where UGA was ranked "hands down" the #1 ranked Defensive recruiting class.....and it wasn't close.

Pruitt should be ecstatic......uh, still need Smith REALLY BAD though.

wlayton, believe NC_Dawg beat me to the punch on one point that the three of us agree on.

Pruitt did exactly what needed to be done, recruited to needs. That also is a Sabanism.

That lead me to say what I said about Roquan Smith. Would love to see him wear the Red and Black, just know that any player trying to get time on the field in 2015, better get started. I too like this group, especially being defense heavy. It has been needed in Athens going on . . . . 15 years.

There has been a shift in several areas in Athens that pertain to football. Solid SEC defense is the way that Alabama became "all that". Like Saban or not, man understands that solid defenses also encourage offensive players to "come on down". Maybe the light is "on". Like you say wlayton, you read an article that said this basically . . . . Georgia plugged some holes. Second year for Pruitt/Rocker and Company, first year after the welcoming press conference, Pruitt hit the road. First stop for Pruitt . . . . Terry Godwin. :)

Edit: A lot has changed in Athens since the arrival of Pruitt/Rocker and Company. From where I sit, positive changes.

Like the rest of the board members and readers, was not happy with the outcome in JAX. I did like the way that Pruitt came flying out of the inner reaches of the stadium to have his say.

Our Defensive Coordinator loves teaching, recruiting, scheming and most of all, hates like hell getting his butt handed to him. JAX will be interesting in 2015, as will Auburn on the Plains. Defensive coach name Muschamp, same coach that ran the gator effort in JAX.

Excited to see Godwin, could really makeup for losing those 2 WR's we needed so bad.

With the talent coming in on D and Pruitt and company coaching them up, gets my blood moving.

Good class, Smith could put icing on the cake. Here's hoping TT and Smith's coach/family can get him to Athens. Do believe he's a little confused right now, good on him to not sign, take a step back, relax and weigh his decision and what's best for him (at least that's what I hope is going on).
