Shannon, remember the thread you are talking about, there were also a couple of others about the same time. wlayton was one that expressed his views repeatedly on the offensive line. At that point and still at this point in my mind, he recognized as some such as averagedawg and sadlerdawg did and have held to that the offensive line was being mismanaged.
I also remember that there were not many, just a handful on this board that were not interested in offensive linemen. That is not a shot, it is simply a fact. Many times it is easy to watch a big play by the offense, but some seem to forget that the game goes for four (4) quarters. Remember Florida defensive lineman laughing at our offensive line? Pointing their fingers and saying how out of condition they were. They were right. At that point there was no Will Friend. And prior to that?
You and I have different views of Friend, acceptable. I believe that there has been so much confusion, lack of leadership from the top that allowed our program to sink lower and lower. That small bump turned into a boil and festered. I cannot and will not accept the fact that Will Friend has had a chance to be all he can be. mark richt has had his time to be all he can be. I am not impressed.
Our program needs to light up, not for one game like the LSU contest where richt showed so much emotion. Every game counts. The LSU game in particular put the focus of the media on richt, and he loves that. One damn game does not a coach make.
Will Friend has a group of very good linemen headed to Athens. Once Kublanow, Sims, Wynn and Kendall Baker get into the fray along the same front, then we/I can better judge Will Friend's talent or lack of. From where I sit, Will Friend has not been one of the "good old boys". richt likes to make excuses about bruised and banged up running backs, Goofy should have had his eyes on the offensive line, really banged up, but continued to do the things that "real players" do, play hurt.
When the "coaching organization" gets their collective acts together, we have a better chance to recruit and get the more talented players. Players know what is going on, more and more some of the sheeples are beginning to understand that all is not gold that glitters. Not referring to Will Friend.
Good post Shannon, enjoy reminiscing. All in good spirit.
