I read an article that has a lot of truth in it. Being a big Ramik Wilson supporter, did not like what I saw from him against South Carolina either.

"Ramik Wilson, the “Mo” linebacker has been making tackles, but many are the catch from behind variety. In the game against SC he was consistently beaten in the flat by the passing plays to the backs, and took several bad angles. There also were issues of play calling, with Ramik looking to the bench for answers, and often not being lined up at the snap of the play. If our play does not improve with the “Mo” spot, this defense will not improve." fieldstforum.com

Appears that Chris Wilson has the attention of the defensive line. Good thing.

The thing I like about the young guys on D is THEY DO NOT QUIT!!! Langley got schooled several times, but the kid never put his head down. He got up and tried to make the next play. His athleticism puts him near the ball - learning will do the rest for him. Effort can make up for a lot of other issues, and he'll pick up the game fast.

As for Ramik - someone needs to make him think about what he's doing and get him to think, "I will be the one who makes this stop". He had a LOT of "me too" tackles.

Good post, Buc - RELEVANT, FOOTBALL "x's and o's" talk - refreshing!

Good stuff Buc...

The one issue that concerns me the most is where our defense is struggling is a fundemental.

Tackling technique and doing it right is something you've got to ge thandled through practice.

Taking a bad angle is understandable with young players. Practice does not prepare you for
game speed and some of these younger players have never played against the kind of speed they
will see every week from runners in the SEC. That adjustment will come in time after they take
a bad angle and get smoked a couple of times.

This tackling issue however... that's something we have to work out in practice.

Coach 'em up CTG. There's a lot of strong support for you, and if you're good you've got to
be great at teaching the fundementals.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Good read that points out the obvious to everyone here. Basic tackling is missing. We have been use to good LB play that now that they are struggling they stand out like a sore thumb. Knew the DBs were inexperienced, however was expecting more from LB core. Herrera is only one doing what it takes. I think he had 12 tackles against SC.

Coach 'em up CTG. Two good weeks before LSU rolls into the Classic City and they will be physical.

Go Dawgs! GATA!

Thanks guys . . . .

J.C. Copeland #44.

Doing a bit of scouting for our game with LSU. Copeland is a nasty man. Ramik Wilson and Amarlo Herrera along with Grantham's front better have the "Big Boy Pads and Attitude" ready.

Said last season I thought our move placing Quayvon Hicks in the backfield more or less copied what LSU did with J. C. Copeland. Copeland is a Senior and he loves contact.

Appears that Zach Mettenberger has come around with his game. Another game between the Hedges that is not for the faint hearted.

No, don't think that Copeland has the ball skills that Hicks does, he however uses his skills to put folks on their butts . . . . often. I have always been partial to fullback and tightend play. Usually tough guys play the two positions.
