Has been said before, McGarity had 10 years under Jeremy Foley at Florida. If McGarity learned anything at all under Foley, he above all should know that the time has come to make his "first big decision".
Had a few days off and had time to think about how changes are going to happen at UGA, if at all. Came to the conclusion that this falls squarely on the lap of McGarity. He is the Athletic Director for a reason, and if he thinks that the job of coaching up the talent on the football team is happening, along with having these young men prepared, then McGarity is missing the boat. You and I can't actually hand Mark Richt and others their walking papers, McGarity can . . . . . unless he is under restraints from the President, and if that is the case, we all lose.
Mark Richt is not a head coach in todays world of football. Let me rephrase that. Mark Richt is not a SEC caliber coach. There is probably a level or a school that would like to have Richt as their head coach, that is where McGarity comes in.
Lots was said about Richt not actually getting a huge raise on this lastest contract extension, many applauded the "man" for not taking the university to the out house. Let's face facts. Sometimes what you are making does not qualify you for that extra pocket being filled. That extra pocket being filled happens with coaches that hang banners and enjoy displaying the crystal.
kentdaddy you closed the door on this current coaching leader a long time back. See it more and more, every game played from now on will hold consequences for Sanford Stadium seats along with different items such as season ticket sales, jerseys, hats, etc.
I will never be able to clear my mind of this . . . . . JAX . . . . UGA football team runs into the endzone and celebrates. The look on Urban Meyer's face remains in my memory today. What did Richt do soon after that, not once, several times . . . . apologize. Some coaches have "brassies" . . . . others are just that . . . . others. Talking only about football, nothing else. Don't be fooled by Richt wanting to move on to projects in South America and other places, if he really wanted to do that, he would resign and do that . . . today. Hard to pass on several "million" a year. Some talk the talk, others walk the walk.
Some might call these players "wimps", personally don't like it, but that is what these boards are about, opinions. These supposed "wimps" might surprise some if they had real leadership in Athens, not having to travel to Tuscaloosa or Columbia or Gainesville to find said leadership.
