Not true, richt just sucks, and the only thing needed to beat him is a sound game plan and a group of players that are motivated enough to carry out said game plan.
Beginning to do some comparisons, especially with the SEC coaches.
sadlerdawg is so right when he says that a sound game plan carried out by the players will show results. We witnessed that in Columbia. South Carolina did nothing more than line up and play the most basic of game plans. Played the game the same way it was basically played when these young folks were in high school. Steve Spurrier knows that he can get the most out of his team, both coaches and players when the time is right.
Allow me this. We get these young men to sign on with UGA to play football, and we get some of the best. Anyone that played football on this board knows one thing for sure, all players are not created equally. Some of these young men are titans when it comes to athletic ability. Not all players are as quick to catch on to the way the game is played in college. Some are really skilled athletically, but many have been coddled throughout their high school days and it takes some of what we called in the service as breaking down and building up.
I think that one of the problems with our defense has been expecting these young men to come in and grasp a system quickly and produce in the 2, 3 or 4 years most will spend on campus. Have been a huge supporter of Grantham, now beginning to think that he has tried too hard to bring these young folks along too quickly. By that I simply mean this. Grantham knows what it is that he wants to accomplish, but he must remember that this is not the Dallas Cowboys, and the players he coached at the NFL level were not 2 or 3 year players.
I hear our football players on the defensive side of the ball talk about not being able to play "fast" because they are not real sure of where they are supposed to be in the system on certain plays. Have played the game film back on the Carolina game, they (Carolina) were balls to the wall, playing physically, did not do anything out of the ordinary. Amazing thing about their defense was they had "another" defensive coordinator, of which they have had several over the Spurrier regime. Good SEC coaches make good decisions, quite frankly I thought and still think that replacing WM with Grantham was an excellent move. Went back through some of my posts and did some counting . . . . Mark Richt told us that we (UGA) were on target and our coaches were in place and did not need replacements, prior to WM and others leaving. Some are not going to like what I am fixing to say. Mark Richt is not a very smart man, he is stubborn, he is not a head football coach.
As far as our offense, see that the "party line" has come into play again. Reading the media reports and possible recruits coming to UGA. Amazing how all of a sudden our coaches think that we might need some help in the offensive line. Some on here want Will Friend to get the boot along with the rest. Don't agree with that. If for some reason we were to replace our head coach, then the new leader should and will bring in his forces. Those that want Friend to get the boot, need to explain to me what Friend has had to work with. Our best chance at Laremy Tunsil is Friend. Anyone that thinks that Theus will be a left tackle in the SEC, pipe dream. We need a left tackle in the worst way. With the other hands on deck, a SEC caliber left tackle puts this offense over the top, along with a head coach that carries the last name of Smart. So smart that Saban will lose the his crown jewel if SMART returns home.
If for some reason Kirby leaves Tuscaloosa and does not end up as the head coach at Georgia, we have totally missed the boat Mr. Greg McGarity. When Kirby Smart leaves Saban he will coach in the SEC. Anyone on this board want to go heads up with Richt versus Smart? Nuff said except for this . . . AD5 made a really good post and if we read it right, AD5 in his way put Richt's feet to the fire.
