I really don't understand how Richt can keep him bobo is clueless, infact this whole coaching staff is clueless. Poor offensive line play and I haven't seen one coach address that.. It's sad when fans who dont get paid millions can see things that "coaches" that do get played millions can't see.

Yeah.....just a little difference in LSU's OL versus UGA's, huh?

"Thought" this would be a good time to post the following article written by Tim Tucker. Can only imagine how much the "dollar value" has changed on Kirby Smart since this article was written. Kirby will come "home" if "we" want him bad enough. We will get one (1) shot at Kirby . . . as Nick Saban said, one of the finest assistants in the country. Not the SEC, the country. Nick Saban said it . . . . I buy into it. :)

Smart explains decision to reject UGA (updated)
3:02 pm January 11, 2010, by Tim Tucker

Athens — Kirby Smart won’t be coming to Georgia as the Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator, deciding after two days of deliberation to remain in the same job at Alabama.

Smart, a former Georgia player, explained his decision in written comments provided by Alabama:

“I think it was pretty well known that there was an opportunity to return to my alma mater as defensive coordinator,” Smart said. ”I wouldn’t even have considered discussing the position with any other school, but when it is a place I’ve spent some of my best years and had some great memories, I thought it was something I should discuss with my family and figure out what was best.

“After thinking about all the factors over the last couple days, we are going to stay at the University of Alabama. We love it in Tuscaloosa, have made some great friends here and I think we are building something special here at Alabama with Coach [Nick] Saban. I have learned so much in the time I’ve spent with Coach Saban, and every year I feel like a become a better coach.

“I’ve got a great deal of respect for Coach [Mark] Richt and the job he has done there, and the University of Georgia will also have a special place in my heart. Not only did I play there, but my wife played basketball there and we have a lot of friends at UGA.”

Smart had been considering a lucrative multi-year offer — reportedly for three or four years at around $700,000 per year — to return to his alma mater as defensive coordinator. His pending decision had been the subject of intense speculation among UGA fans over the weekend. Saban previously had expressed his disapproval of assistant coaches making lateral career moves.

“We’re very pleased and happy that Kirby is going to be staying here at the University of Alabama with us,” Saban said in a statement this afternoon. ”He’s done a fabulous job for us. He’s one of the finest assistant coaches in the country.

“You expect guys like Kirby to get lots of opportunities to do things, and we want to continue to help him continue to develop his career here so that when he leaves here, it’s going to be to be a head coach and probably in a very good situation. So we’re excited about that. We’re happy for him and his family. It’s very pleasing to us.”

Alabama is believed to have aggressively countered Georgia’s financial offer, but said it would not reveal Smart’s new salary until it is approved by trustees in the spring. Smart’s salary was around $360,000 in 2009.

Richt has been trying to hire a new defensive coordinator since the Dec. 2 firing of Willie Martinez and two other defensive coaches.

Georgia previously pursued two veteran defensive coordinators for the job, Virginia Tech’s Bud Foster and LSU’s John Chavis. Both opted to remain in their current jobs after having their contracts considerably sweetened.

Edit: Might want to read this article. . . . . One paragraph I particularly liked . . .

“I definitely think I’m ready to take the next step,” Smart said. “It’s gotta be the right place, the right opportunity. That hasn’t really presented itself. I’m completely happy being the defensive coordinator at Alabama. It’s the greatest non-head coaching job in the country.”

I've stayed off the forum for the last nearly two weeks. I've gone back to mostly "lurking" and will continue to do so the rest of the season. Here are my "thoughts":

This season is ruined. If we had lost to the 'Cocks by a touchdown or less, we'd still be playing for something. I know, I know. There are MANY out there who say a 50 point loss is no worse than a 1 point loss in the record column. That's true. But it's not what it does to the record that counts. It's what it says about the team. And here is what a 28 point beat down means -

We do not have a very good football team. 13th best in the nation? Nobody on earth really believes that. I sure don't. If we had lost by a TD or less, I'd tip my cap, even to the 'Cocks, and say "good game". But this last game ruined the season.

The first clue was the Buffalo game. Next, we had one guy who played lights out against an unsuspecting, and frankly pretty bad Missouri team. Then we had more doubts for a half against FAU. Then we picked up some delusions of grandeur against the dandies from Vandy. Then Tennessee gave us another clue. We are NOT a very good football team. South Carolina - don't let that win get you too cocky. You're not as good as we made you look.

What if we win out and the 'Cocks lose to UF? What if we luck up, 'Bama has about 4 or 5 injuries and a couple of key suspensions and we play lights out in all phases and somehow win the SEC? Then we go on to win the Sugar Bowl (it will NOT be the NC)? You know what? The season is still ruined. At least for me. Losing one game isn't the end of the world, but getting the @#$% beat out of you on national television at the hands of a GOOD team (not GREAT team) is a season killer.

We have a team of quitters. They give up. I don't think it's lack of "S&C". I think it's lack of manhood. Many on this board may take me to task for questioning the players like that, but I just call it like I see it. I know the last string kicker could beat me up, but what would that prove? It still doesn't make any of them men. At least I wouldn't QUIT in a fight. And I think their manhood has been allowed to whither away by the head coach, who is a good winner and an even better loser. He's a nice guy. He'd probably make Wake Forest proud. Even Georgia Tech. But not us.

We are in one of the worst positions in all of sports. We have a quitter for a head coach who plays enough cup cakes to win no less than 8 games each season, so he will NEVER be fired. Meanwhile, Tennessee has at least been "smart" enough to suck bad enough for long enough that they will hire Kirby Smart next year, relegating us to 4th best team in the east (assuming Missouri does nothing to improve).

So I'm taking the rest of the season off. I just got married this past weekend, so my wife and I can enjoy some time together. The owner of the bed and breakfast we stayed in wore his 'Bama shirt to breakfast Saturday morning. Must feel good to show off your national championship pride all season long.

Not quitting . . . Mark Richt is not MY coach . . . just taking things a little less seriously for the remainder of the ruined season.

See you guys around.

Don't get me wrong . . . like I said . . . I'm not a quitter just because things haven't gone my way . . . unlike Richts football team . . . I'm just taking the season MUCH less seriously, and so I don't feel as enthusiastic as I did a few weeks ago. I'm still here. I'm sure I'll be back in full swing once we get a new HC - if that ever happens.

BTW - I was going out to get Mexican for the family just before that "game" started. Left just before kickoff. When I arrived at the restaurant, we were already down 14-0. Before I left with the carry out, we were already done at 21-0.

Wartdawg, you didn't HAVE to be right about Carolina's DEs - they didn't HAVE to be great against us, just COMPETENT. You were a lot closer to right than I was . . . I'll man up to that.

This post is why you need to be here thriller. Too often too many of us have been side tracked by the "party line". Myself included. Never again from the Rich Richt Gang. I agree with almost all of what you posted, most of the time I do and you know that.

So correct you are, it was nothing less than a "Beat Down", or as Mark Richt likes to refer to the game . . . . "the perfect storm". He needs to stay out of the movie theaters and put whatever effort he has in improving his methods for the game he was hired to coach and make whole. Three plus million dollars for this . . . . does not have the moxie to stand up and admit his failures at this point. There is a reason that he did not play first string football in college or the NFL . . . . winners claim those positions. Don't know when, but Mark Richt is going to end up the same way Bobby Bowden did . . . . that is if we have an Athletic Director similar to the one in Florida.

Congratulations on the marriage, there is some "sunshine" in your life.
