Really hard for me to understand how we can run the pro set (the way we utilize it) and not have a solid fullback playing a major role in our offensive schemes. Until we know exactly where we stand with our offensive line, that extra talented big body in the backfield can change a lot of outcomes in a game. Might not be touchdowns, but could be. Might lead to just enough field position to allow Morgan a shot at the uprights, or Barber a chance to pin the opponent inside their twenty or so.
WoodstockDawg, with you on being the fullback being able to catch the football. I truly believe that Quayvon Hicks is going to be one link in our team coming together and maybe reaching new heights. You Tube shows QH cathing the ball. You and I are definitely on the same page about fullback play. Mention now of Mike Thornton also lining up in the backfield. I like it. Nothing prevents these young men from returning to their original positions. Think it is an advantage to have played on the other side of the ball. Thornton did play some fullback in high school.
AllDawgs5, Bruce Figgins gets nothing but high fives from me. Was he a true fullback, nope. Bruce played through some off field difficulties but did come back and man up. Some of what you were mentioning in the long thread recently that many of us participated in . . . . some of these young men needed time to stabilize. Bruce was not the best, but he did what was asked of him.
Reminds me of another teammate playing for the “team”, not self, DeAngelo Tyson. Was not a true nose tackle, both of these young men gave it up for the team. I hope against hope that this attitude works its way through this entire group. If it does, all of us that support these young men will be in the same camp, I know that I would like that.
We have a very good chance now to build some depth, hoping that all of these young men accept what their coaches have to say and forget “self”. That is the way that they will get a “Ring”. Tough for the 18-22 year olds to do, but sooner or later they have to advance to that way of thinking, or . . .
Keep recruiting coaches, two deep beats moving players around. Some teams are there now, maybe soon we will be.
