Mike, don't hold this against me, but it is one of the thoughts that I have stemming from other comments made last week and issues that I know are long standing.
Ben Jones loves UGA, as much as we do. He plays, we watch, and pay to watch Ben and the others between the Hedges and elsewhere.
Recently President Adams had a couple of issues to face. First issue with the two board members was shuffled off in another direction. Adams said correctly, go to the folks that made the comments. Did not personally like the way Adams handled the situation, but he did it his way. Some things never need to leave the room where there is no sunshine. That issue (#1) should and could have been handled with a bit more professionalism.
Second issue (#2) was Adams coming out just a few days later and asking the student body to attend the games. If you have lost the student body, in my way of thinking, you are at the beginning of more serious problems than the two board members that were mentioned in issue #1.
Football is the life blood for many programs and improvements that all of us are aware of in Athens. Our program has slipped. It is discussed on this board and many others not once in a while, it is constant. I am one of those that keeps the issue out front. One of many, because I have always liked having "sunshine" in the room.
Adams knows how much football means to UGA, Athens and the surrounding areas. Many of us call for Bobo's head, along with Richt and others. I think that a lot of the "noise" is well founded and I hope it continues until we get our "dollars worth". Think that Adams gets a nice raise soon.
I read an article in another publication today that said with some "authority" that Adams will never release Richt. Main reason being (I think) many out there mention the fact that Richt is a good man. That truthfully is not the issue. The issue is having fans cheering for a winning program, hard to hear our voices if we don't fill those seats in Sanford Stadium. Tough making that payroll when the dollars don't find their way into the UGA coffers.
Adams is the leader, not McGarity, not Richt or anyone else. He is the "Lead Dawg" and when the lead dawg starts campaigning for students to attend UGA FOOTBALL in Sanford Stadium, between the HEDGES. Something is wrong.
Is it correctable? Any problem has a solution, whether sports, money markets or private business. The solution might not suit all, but saving the program comes first.
I will stop Mike, I get this way, sometimes it bugs the heck out of me when I see folks not looking at the root cause of problems. Hard to see the "real" problem when the problem is behind closed doors.
There should not be an empty seat in the stadium on Saturday, this is a very important SEC encounter, much larger game than I thought it would be before the season began. I am real tired of the whitewash that has been applied to the fence . . . I want a new fence. First step is Adams. My opinion.
I believe that our defense is coming of age. We have some folks that are on the sidelines that I wish were playing, but I am really proud of the young folks that have stepped up and put the "Hard Hats" on. I love the University of Georgia, and am beginning to like this football team. Not because of Adams, it is the young men that are staying out of trouble and moving forward with their lives.
I think that Ben is trying to keep our spirits up. I appreciate him trying, just think that those above him should feel the same thing that Ben does . . . . in his/their heart.
Go Dawgs . . . no whitewash. Coach'em up.
