hear what you are sayin Buc.....just thought it interesting that they would even consider moving RS back to the offense......he will get more playing time backing up AO at ILB and we are going to really need to utilize the wealth of talent we have on the defensive side of the ball to win the games we need to win this year.....funny how my concerns have changed from early on, my main concern was our cover guys.....now with the offense very thin at OL and TB the cover guys IE Safeties do not look so bad.....looks like we will have to count on AM to stay healthy and carry our offense and our great special teams to win a least 2 games for us in order for duck's concerns to not become a sad reality....

Good post ogredawg. The one chance we have to shine this year is with the addition of Jenkins, Geathers stepping up, and of course the backers. If it was up to me, the absolute studs would play on the defensive side of the ball. Meaning guys that know how and will put their helmet where it should be. Would much rather have one side of the ball be incredible and the other mediocre than both sides mediocre.

In my heart, what I do know about football, the people that I am around and have been around, believe that our single largest problem is Richt does not understand the overall management of the game.

Why would he pass the duties of offensive coordinator to Bobo, and likewise, why would he pass the duties of defensive coordinator off to WM. Makes no damn sense. What really makes no sense is that he wanted to be cavalier and hang on to his appointees. Some folks cannot admit that they have faults. Richt did well for a long time, said before, he appears to be a good recruiter. For sure there were some good coaches and players when he was hired to run the good ship UGA.

Being a good recruiter brings me to this. All of the talent that has crossed the campus in Athens and we have been in free fall. UGA is not a University that is short on coin, so facilities and such are no problem. We all know that money for the coaching staff has not suffered.

Takes my mind to this, and brothers this is going to hurt, but the truth is the truth. Where would UGA be if Spurrier was the head coach. That hurts, can't stand him. Can we even start to imagine how many records and how well UGA would do if Spurrier was coaching AM. a young man with a brain, athletic and team player. Anyone think for a minute that Orson Charles would not be far advanced under the same leadership. I could go on like this forever.

Some folks are good tool and die makers, some folks are incredibly good with numbers. Quite frankly what I see going on with our football team is a serious lack of leadership.

Grantham was not Richt's choice, that gives me hope. JTII has been around forever, he was not Richt's choice, that gives me hope. Richt is a coordinator, he is not a head coach. Richt is a good recruiter, he is not a head coach. UGA will figure that out, probably this year.

Edit . . . After I posted, I look to my right on Steve's home page and read this. If our players are rated this high . . . . .what? We don't play Alabama this year unless . . . . .

Edit: Here is another thing that bothers me. I have been around forever not liking the Bees. Amazes me how the NCAA can come down on GT and still have OSU open. Folks the NCAA stinks.

One more time . . . . do some of these folks that claim to be UGA folks embarass you. They sure as hell do me. They take me back to Bert Reynolds and a movie made in North Georgia. Dum de dum dum dum. . . . friggin idiots. Several that post in the AJC have yet to crack a book.

This is the crap that I keep harping about. Notice another ex-quarterback keeps throwing game winning thoughts away from Bobo and Richt. Buck does not mention Richt, guess he thinks that Bobo is the offensive coordinator. The defense has to do this and that. Keep making those excuses for Bobo and Richt, it will come back to bite you.

Defense has to hunker down in the first two games . . . . think maybe the Bobo led offense needs to score some points . . . . silly me.

How many All-SEC players on this team . . . . Top quarterback in the SEC. Orson Charles and others. Just how much does Bobo/Richt need to make the offense work . . .

Sources have told everyone that can read Jenkins is quick. Don't give those sources away.

Bobo's Offense has lost some depth at key positions. The O-Line is razor thin. The RB position is down to the minimum. Best case scenario: there are no injuries on the OL and Crowell turns out to be a stud. Let's hope for those 2 things.

But let's be real...the key to the season lies on the other side of the ball.

Grantham's 'Dog Defense has to lead the way; especially in the first 2 games. Let me be clear: to start the season 2-0, the Georgia defense has to Hunker Down in a big way. Then, all season long this unit has to deliver a top-of-the-SEC performance level. Get up top with Alabama.

Anything less will not be good enough. Three things need to happen.
1- JC transfer Jonathan Jenkins has got to be our Cody/Fairley.
2- Freshman Ray Drew gets delivers on 3rd Down in the Nickel Package.
3- Alec Ogletree is the next great Georgia LB.

Sources tell me Jenkins is the fastest DL during conditioning this summer. He's in shape. And Jonathan is a mature guy...just turned 22 and full grown at 6'4", 340 pounds. He was recruited to bring immediate impact. Can't wait to see him get off the double team in practice.

Drew's impact is a flip of the coin, but he was one of the top-rated players in HS. The one thing that he can do right now is rush the passer, so that leads me to believe Grantham will have his hand on the ground, in the 3rd down/Nickel Package. If Drew can make an impact, that would be huge.

Last season, the 'Dogs Defense was last in the SEC on 3rd down, allowing a conversion rate of 47%.

Ogletree appears to be headed towards a huge season (average 10 tackles a game). His skill set: Ability to chase sideline-to-sideline. With the DL much-improved, Ogletree should be able to be on the attack.

Hey Buc, I agree with everything in your last post. BB does make excuses for them. All I know and I cant believe they dont know, Is if you cant RUN the ball in the SEC then you WILL NOT WIN THE SEC!!! its that simple oh and ofcourse you must have a strong D.

Buck's claim to fame is that he was able to hand the ball to Herschel and that Lindsey could run bout sums it up, but he will remind you that HE won a NC at UGA completing 1 pass.....he needs to stick with the Braves he was a better baseball player anyhoo.....he was damn lucky to have the talent around him when he played at UGA and at Valdosta too....good coaches like Nick Hyder and Vince Dooley can make even mediocre players look good...

Well, I hoped he would stay on D, but it's official he's going to tailback. UGA's release--

Georgia junior linebacker Richard Samuel of Cartersville will return to the tailback position, according to an announcement Thursday by UGA head coach Mark Richt. Samuel, who played tailback as a freshman and sophomore, had been moved to linebacker a year ago but injuries led to a redshirt season in 2010.

“After discussions with Richard, his family, and our coaches I’m excited that Richard wants to make the move,” Richt said. “He’s one of our fastest and most powerful players, is very mature, has a strong character and is a man we can count on. I’m proud of him for always putting the team first and I look forward to seeing what he can do.”

Said Samuel: “I’m excited about the opportunity at tailback. I’m ready to do anything that will help the team win.”

In his two seasons at tailback (2008-09), Samuel played in 22 games including six starts (all in 2009). He carried 114 times for 528 yards and three touchdowns.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!
