wlayton in agreement for the most part again. Sometimes a player is signed and turns out to be much more than was expected. You know that, so do I.
I do feel one advantage that this incoming class has over some of the others. It appears that we finally have leadership, or at least that is being thrown around again, that time of the year. Christian Robinson speaks boldly about bad apples and attitudes, of course without calling the players by name. We know who they were by simply checking the arrests on the internet and newspapers. Kudos to CR for stepping up and letting his teammates know where he stands. That is leadership.
Leadership on the field and the dorm is one thing, the real leadership comes from the top. That in my opinion has been missing for a long time. Several changes have been made in the coaching staff, my thinking is it did not happen soon enough, another reason for the decline in the UGA football program over the past x number of years. I hope most of the questionable areas have been addressed and don't need a second visit.
There appears to be some difference of opinion on where Malcolm Mitchell will play. This is a young, smart, gifted football player that comes from a football rich community. Would love to see him play one (1) primary position. Don't screw this young kid up trying to make a two way player out of him. Smith has been going through this same thing since his arrival, and now we don't hear a lot of folks talking about him the way we did when he chose UGA. He has missed a lot of time learning the defensive schemes, or so it appears. With IC coming in, Smith's chances of touching the ball went down 100%.
In many of my posts I say there is not a lack of talent in Athens. I don't think there has been a lack of talent since Richt came on board. I do think that there has been a lack of D1 coaching in this regime. Richt is a great recruiter, not sure about some of his other abilities. By that I mean some of his coaching choices, and that lays at his feet. Many of us have said that we hope this coming season brings about a turnaround. Will say it again, there is enough on the field talent in Athens to win games against Boise State, USC, Auburn and yes, even Florida.
Back to the learning curve. Some of these young guys coming in have more experience in better programs than some of our folks in Athens now. This scheme was new to everyone basically last year. This will be their second year, should see improvment. Some of the talent coming in is not that far behind. Maybe we find that one or two that surpass our highest expectations. Agree with you, hope ALL of the DB's on campus and coming on board catch on fast.
