Well Duck, guess it goes something like this . . . If UGA loses to the teams that you mention, there will be more than you throwing up the white flag.
When we lost to UCF, really ate at me. There were some games last year that we were in, and that takes into account that we were supposedly out of gas in the fourth quarter. Guess that means there is talent wearing the Red and Black.
Seldom does one player turn a team around, but it does happen. I go along with many of the opinions that have been voiced here. Those first two games are critical.
Going back to the one player turning things around, have to believe that the talent base because of JJ will change a lot of games. The defensive front is going to be pretty damn big and for big men, quick.
Tennessee, think that we will kick their butts. I say that because I am not sold on their quarterback. Watched him pretty closely last year, loves to put it up, and a lot of the time when it is not advisable. With this group of linebackers that we have, along with a "new front" . . . . guess you and I will need a little "side" bet.
Guess my differing of opinion with you is about the defense. We do come back with folks that have a chance to be outstanding, if they understand the concepts that Grantham and his coaches are putting in front of them and apply the lessons on Saturdays, could be worth the price of admission.
On the offensive side of the ball, if we don't score points with folks like IC, Charles and all of the rest of returning players, not going to try and mention all by name, but this is the twist. The offensive line has to be good, don't have to be outstanding, but good allows this offensive group a great chance to score points. AM got the living hell kicked out of him in the Auburn game, but he and the others put points on the board against a bad ass bunch of thugs.
Florida is in transition. That is a fact. Another reason UM left, not all of it was because of health. He had ran his course. That bothers me for this reason . . . . would love to have him back, but his replacement truly understands pro style football and that is exactly where they are headed. UM left before he got his butt whipped in JAX and that was close. Fact.
Now we find out just how good Muschamp is, he has the reigns, he also has a huge talent base. He is doing the same thing that we are doing, bringing in pros to teach, not friends that lack coaching experience at the SEC level. Another game that is worth the price of admission.
Could go through the others, won't. This UGA team has the talent to play winning football. There should be no excuses about conditioning when the first whistle blows. Coach T will definitely make sure these young men are where he wants them to be come the first game. I look at it like this . . . . we are talking about young men, late teens, early twenties, does not take that long to get your wind, and that is one of the primary things that we did not have last year, or the year before, or . . . . .
Looks like it comes down to . . . . . ready for this . . . . SPECIAL TEAMS. We can punt and kick with the best of teams. Coverage, huge word when we talk SEC football. You cover, you win. Simple as that. Coach Belin certainly understood that. Another reason a man of his caliber was asked and moved on to the pro game.
Two things for me Duck, offensive line, special teams.
Might add this also, I am still pissed about the past few years, sometimes it takes a fiesty Irishman to stand up and face the issue, call all hands on deck, including the Captain of the ship and give them a refresher course in winning, and what is expected, no excuses allowed. Now, it is after five, time for two for one. Cheers Duck.
