Well ,if we played there schedule ,we would be undefeated every yr. Let him come to the SEC and see what happens. VT wasnt all that.

No arguing, Boise State has a weak schedule.
He's still a good coach who lays it on the line.

OldSouthDawg- I stated clearly he didn't have to cuss anybody. I didn't mean too imply being a Christian makes him too soft. He alone has made that choice.

BTW- He was not HC at Fla State and isn't it interesting that Fl. State never considered him to replace Bowden...hmm

What CMR did 5 years ago is not relevant to where this program is apparently headed.

Everyone just ask yourselves these questions.

Are you happy with his comments following 2 losses?

Are you happy with him telling the fan base they don't understand football (or something similar) ?

Are you happy with what you saw with the EFFORT you saw in the SC game and apparently the first 3 quarters of the Arkansas game?

Are you happy with a veteran O line that can't protect the quarterback or open holes for the running backs?

Are you happy with running backs that can't or won't pass block?

Are you happy seeing Rambo's effort in the SC game, he admitted loafing, the announcers noted him taking several plays off yet still playing almost the entire Arkansas game?

Are you happy seeing the team come out flat and apparently clueless what the other team is gonna do offensively or defensively? Almost always spotting the other teams?

Are you tired of it apparently taking 2 or 3 quarters for effective adjustments to be made?

Are you tired of the same 20-25 offensive plays a game being called?

Are you tired of seeing the same plays being called over and over when it is obvious it isn't working?

Are you tired of seeing shoulder tackles, poor angles and seeing players that cannot wrap up and tackle?

Are you tired of opening a sports page and reading about another player getting in trouble?

Are you tired of the lack of discipline on the field as well ? (or is that a cultural thing too?)

Are you tired of getting blown away by FL almost every year?

Are you getting the feeling the NCAA action on AJ Green was somewhat of a message to the program as a whole?

Are you tired of "waiting until next year"?

Ultimately he is responsible for all of the above and much more.

I like and respect Coach Richt and truly hope he can turn things around and fast. Making the decisons to do so and taking actions is what I mean by MAN UP !

Some are wise and some are otherwise !

I hear what you are saying, I know he wasnt the HC at Fla state but he coached the QBs and the Off. and when he left there they went down the tubes fast and still havent recovered. all the sudden UGA went up, when he arrived. He finally did somthing about WM, yes we all know it took to long because of his friendship with him. But we must give CTG some time after all CMR brought BVG here before anyone knew who he was and look at him now. Then yes he let CMB take over, CMR wife got cancer so yes he is Human, He might have got off track a little by that. Who wouldnt I would be a mess at work too if I had to worry about that, and keep the Whole Bulldawg nation Happy at the same time expecting to keep the BAR set at where he set it. Look I was really upset after the SC loss cause I hate SS so much and I hate UGA losing at anything. And if I thought for a second that CMR didnt care or wasnt trying his all here I would be the first to pack his bags. This is just My opinion. And yes I am sure there are great coaches out there. but who knows if they will come to this conf. how long they will stay and how many yrs it will take to get there guys here. And dont forget it takes luck also to win it all. Not always the best team wins. But i truly believe CMR will get to the top of the MTN. Many Men have failed before reaching there goals in life. And I believe CMR is Not a quitter and I believe these Dawgs are not either they showed us last week they will fight till the end. and AM will get better. anyway GO DAWGSSSSS good night.

I don't know if this is the place to post this, but I suppose this is as good a place as any. Moderator, feel free to move/re-move this post as you want.

First, I hate losing as much as anyone. I just want to say this because I haven't experienced an undefeated season in 30 years. On the other hand, I haven't had to stomach a losing season since 1996. Alabama fans can't say that. Every year we lose, and every year we say "wait until next year". Almost every program does. That includes Alabama except for last year, and so far this year.

Here are some interesting stats though:

1973 - we lost to: Alabama, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Florida, our record was 7-4
1974 - we lost to: Miss. St. (blow out), Clemson, Houston, Auburn, GT (another blow out I'll never forget - I was there and nearly froze to death and was nearly trampled to death), and Miami of Ohio (not close). our record was 6-6
1975 - we lost to Pitt, Ole Miss and Arkansas (remember the shoestring play? at least it was creative - ugh), our record was 9-3 Cotton Bowl!
1976 - we lost only to Ole Miss and Pitt (the Sugar Bowl blowout). Our record was 10-2. AWESOME! Sugar Bowl!
1977 - we lost to <ahem> - Clemson, Alabama, Kentucky (Prince Charles witnessed that blowout), Florida, Auburn and GT. Our record was 5-6. Nice follow up, huh? Same coaching staff as the previous two seasons, by the way.
1978 - we lost to South Carolina, tied Auburn and lost to Stanford. Our record was 9-2-1.
1979 - we lost to <gulp, gasp> Wake Forest at home, Clemson, South Carolina, Virginia (blowout, AT HOME), and Auburn (another blowout). Our record was 6-5 with an 0-3 start to the season. How many of you, honestly now, would have demanded some coaching changes? Would you REALLY, REALLY have wanted to keep that defensive coordinator, the same one who gave up 31 points to the Cavaliers, AT HOME?

Those teams ran the veer offense, and the split 60 defense, neither of which was a particularly "state of the art" system, even then.

Compare those seasons above to the last 7 seasons and ask yourself a question, then answer as honestly as you can (lying to me won't bother me at all, by the way). If you had to take the coaching staffs from one of those two 7 season runs, which would you take? Remember, we lost to Virginia AT HOME by a score of 31 to nothing. Were they a power house that year? Anyone remember? I do. They were derided by the sports media as being unworthy of stepping foot into Sanford stadium, they were called "a bunch of meatballs" and they mopped the field with us. Do you remember who the defensive coordinator was? I do. Erk Russell.

Maybe I'm just too old to appreciate our "modern times", but Dooley and Russell never put up any numbers that were even CLOSE to CMRs numbers. Or CMBs for that matter. 8 wins is the fewest CMR has put on the board yet. And we need to replace him? Question his judgement and ability? Not me. I don't want to go back to the Dooley and Russell years. I know they didn't have A.J. Green, they just had some kid named Herschel. You see, I actually REMEMBER them.

I'm not happy with this season at all. But I'm realistic. I think even wlayton said this is NOT the year. Next year is.

I'll complain about the play calling, the passion, and the mistakes just like everyone else. But I'll also keep in mind that the current coaching staff is the best we've had in the history of our school, and would be SNATCHED UP IN A HEART BEAT by most any other school out there. It sure would be humbling to have them come back here and whip us like Virginia and Kentucky did back in the 70s.

And oh yes, that sorry 1979 season preceded a pretty good 1980 season, if I recall correctly.

Thriller you make some very good points. However, if we are going to travel back in time, many of the unknown factors must be put on the table to reach certain conclusions.

Speaking for myself, that is all I can do, have stated on this site more than once that I was never a huge supporter of VD. I tried, it just did not work.

Many times came close to not making the trek to Athens, and why was that . . . . the term has been used over and over and it is the truth. Thee yards and a cloud of dust. The talent at the time you are mentioning (70's) was leaving the State of Georgia and heading north or other areas.

Football under VD was as predictable then as it is now on the offensive side of the ball under MB. Will debate that fact with anyone, anytime. One would have thought that a QB coming out of Auburn and eventually taking the head coaching job at UGA would have been a bit more creative. Same shoe fits MB, there is one problem with that, you cannot teach or coach what you don't "completely" understand.

One problem with some of the points you truthfully point out in the 70's can be looked at a bit closer, which I did from Athens. Erk Russell and his defense were left in situations game after game that were impossible to dig their way out of. Never, ever did I see the UGA defense enter the field of play under Erk and not lay it on the damn line. Fact Jack.

Another thing that was known, not highly publicized was the rift that was ongoing with VD and Erk. VD would have been lucky to win a game had it not been for Erk Russell. VD would have been dismissed, except for one fact, he was closely tied in with the folks that hired him at UGA.

I have tried to be a patient person in my life, sometimes it did not work that way, but I tried. Having said that, I have to look at the current situation not from rose colored glasses, cannot in all honesty say this is what I want to go through again. The program has been in decline for a while, whether anyone agrees or disagrees. The facts are there.

Why is it that Bama, Florida, LSU and others are climbing the ladder while holding our head under water with one hand. Any mention of SEC football and success can not be heard in the media mentioning UGA. That bothers me. While the media manipulates, it also works for the schools that receive the favorable press. Until more meaningful changes are made in Athens, this will continue, in my opinion.

Folks are not going to continue buying those season tickets and jerseys if this program does not correct itself. You make some very good points, seem old enough to have witnessed UGA football in the time period that you make note of.

bulldawg36869 makes some good points. This will continue to be a tit for tat conversation, but remember this, when we are looking up statistics, they don't always show what was really happening on the field. I can "truthfully" say that I was there in the 60's and 70's following the team from the early 50's.

One last point on Erk, when he left UGA, how did he do? Makes a huge difference when a "qualified person" is allowed to steer the ship. The "Good Ship UGA" was placed in the hands of some . . . one that played at UGA, (the same person that was responsible for HW signing on with UGA) was put in that position by VD. VD was a control freak, sorry truth does hurt sometimes. He knew that Erk not only understood the game, but he had the whole damn State of Georgia that was ready to play for him. VD's time at the helm did not impress me and many others, also his choices for head coaches both football and basketball were even less impressive.

All I want to see is UGA being handled in such a way as to be respected . . . and feared on the gridiron. Not sure that I see that in the way the program has been ran the past few years. I think we made excellent defensive hires this past year. Coach Richt is not going to touch the defense, he knows what he has on that side of the ball, three excellent hires.

So, what is the problem? I say it is offensively, and we are doing the same things that VD did . . . not three yards and a cloud of dust, but the same 20 or so plays that can and will be game planned for by every team in this league. In my opinion MB has had his chance, that is one persons opinion. Does anyone truly believe that MB has what it takes to get us offensive wise up to speed with the top teams in this league? Heaven forbid Steve Spurrier starts kicking our butts like he did while at Florida. Looks like he is making a comeback, getting a lot of press, never hurts recruiting.

Just a few thoughts, I do have more.

Go Dawgs!
