Coaching Questions

OSD hate to disagree with you, but they are all not the same. The difference between CMR and the rest is loyalty. I can appreciate loyalty as much as the next guy, but CMR has made excuses for CWM for to long now. Any of the other coaches are going to get people under them that help them win. How long would NS or UM or BS have put up with CWM, I submit not very long. Maybe one year. CMR has to get that fire and passion that BBD has stated in his last couple of posts. If not and if he continues to let CWM handle the defense, then UM and NS will continue to rule the SEC.

When I say the same, I mean coaching or knowledge of the game, not the person, CMR is head and shoulders above them as a Man and a mentor, his flaw is he is nice, and cares to much about people, where as you point out UM and NS
have no loyalties accept to there own self and there own needs for power no matter who or what happens to anyone around them. As long as they look good and get the credit they are happy to do what ever it takes and move on to the next team or next step for themselves. I guess Nice guys do finish last huh! Therefore CMR needs a BVG or someone like him to do the dirty work and have that killer Def mentality. I do however agree WM must go.

Okay point taken. Then what are we considering great coaches. Is it winning, or being a morally sound person. There are alot of morally sound coaches that dont win any games. NS and UM are not getting paid to make any friends, they have to win games. If they dont then they will be replaced. Im not saying that CMR isnt a great coach, he is. But there is a difference between him and the rest. He can rectify that, by making some changes to his staff, but until that happens he will not be listed with the big time coaches of the present day. So yes as long as CMR takes the nice guy approach then he will finish last. Thats the nature of college football. So coaching wise, NS and UM are head and shoulders above CMR right now.

I hate saying a gator fan is right, but even they can see the problem and richt refuses to acknowledge the issue, richt is a great coach but he lack management skills. Loyalty is a great quality to have, if it relates to issuing former players coaching duties or helping them find coaching gigs at a level they can handle. Sticking with a coach with the worst defense 3 years running and sticking with a QB who folds easily under pressure is not loyalty, its just plain stupidity.

BBD that was an excellent point that you made about MRS. RICHT and CMR's fire. That would change my priorities as well. I really don't know who is the better coach. CMR has had a lot more years to prove himself than the other coaches. He had some great talent at FSU and only came away with one NC. I know he was a coordinator, but he had a lot of authority. I think they are all pretty much equal. Their staffs are what separates them. I think the world of CMR, but friendship doesn't give you a free pass. CMR has to see this and make the move. He also needs the university to step up and make a commitment to winning. If we are going to get the best coordinators then they will have to spend some money. I think I would rate them NS, PC, MR, UM. The only reason If I put UM behind everyone else is because he still needs time to prove himself. His first NC was with Zook's talent and TT. Then the rest of his time he has had TT. It is pretty easy to coach and motivate when you arguably have one of the top five college football players of all time leading your team. If I had any of these coaches and comparable staffs then I would be happy. We just don't have that comparable staff.

I agree with GATORstrong........morally sound? CMR is as good as any in the country. But the question posed is about who is the better coach and to me, there's only one way to measure it.....WINNING.
