Coaching Questions

Coaching Questions was created by Buc
Is Coach Richt a better coach than Coach Meyer? Taking all things into consideration, I would have to say that is a negative at this time. What could possibly be my reason for saying that? National Championships. Coming out on top most of the times that these two have met in recent games. Is it because UM has better talent year after year? Does UM have a better coaching staff than CMR?

What are the reasons that we go into the Florida game and expect to get beat? One can check some of the posts on this board and you will see that some posters expect Florida to bury us. How does that happen when both schools have talent rated in the top ten or top five, year after year. Are the folks that rate the athletes missing when it comes to whether an athlete is a 3, 4 or 5 star athlete?

UGA still has the overall lead in total games played between the two universities. That lead is slowly but surely slipping away and it concerns me. Is there nothing that we can do to stop what has become a one sided affair for the most part?

My question again is . . . . what is the answer.

Personally, I think that programs gets complacent, look at Tennessee. Steady decline in the program the last few years. Someone sitting at the round table with power said enough is enough and made what I would call drastic changes. The outcome at UT is still up for grabs, however they have made a serious move.

Alabama, many problems there, coaches being let go left and right. Along comes Coach Saban, and I guess that we all know what has happened there. Again, folks at the round table knew that the program was in decline and Alabama football was about all the State of Alabama had ever had as a bragging right. The powers of Bama football pulled out the big bucks, went after a proven coach and . . . . Bama is back.

Just a few thoughts/questions from someone that has questions about the University I care for. Maybe some of you have some thoughts on where we are at in SEC Football.

One last statement, looking forward to Alabama and Tennessee game.

Buc,,,,,imo we have equal athletes.....UM is a better coach in certain areas.......but the biggest difference is UM has a much better coaching STAFF.

Now Buc, let me ask you a question........If you could chose any of the following coaches to run your program, which one would you choose between: UM, Saban, Carroll, CMR or Stoops?

Second question: how would you rank those 5 coaches?

wlayton, appreciate the come back. Also know that you are very sincere in the questions posed to me.

I would rate CMR a better offensive coordinator. It bothers me that he has passed along what I consider his strongest suit (excluding recruiting) and that is play calling.

UM in my opinion is a better special teams coach, and I agree that he has a better staff. No doubt in my mind on that point. That also is part of being a head coach in college, picking a staff.

If I am all about winning, and I think most of us are, Saban has the experience and has proven he is a top rated college coach. Not pro, college. Will not enter into the morales issue.

I would rate the coaches this way:
Saban

Richt/Meyer/Carroll (same) What separates the three coaches is available talent. I feel strongly that UGA needs to be able to recruit nation wide. I understand that we got the #1 NFL draft choice this year to play for us and he is from the Dallas area. I think that is the exception, not the rule.

Stoops

Buc thats a great ?. I have been thinking about this for a while now. Is UM that much better of a coach, can UF have much better athletes. I think the answer to both is no. To a certain degree. CMR is a great playcaller, and recruiter. Parents want there boys to play for a Man of his standards. On the other hand kids want to play somewhere they will have a shot at winning big games and getting there name on TV when the whole nation is watching. So far UM is better in that regard. UM staff is no doubt MUCH better. Strong is imo the best in the business. Not to there arent any better than him, Im just partial.

When these young kids get on campus, they have to motivated(coached up). I think UM is better at that right now. UM and NS are not as morally sound as CMR, but can you have your cake and eat it to. Personally I dont think so. Most of these kids need an angry cus to direct them where there potential lies. UM and NS are better at that.

If I could have anyone right now, prolly Saban.

Ranking
NS/UM are the same to me.
CMR
Stoops
Carroll

I know that ? wasnt prolly for me so sorry for replying, but its an interesting thought

No GATORstrong, I'm glad you posted and want everyone's opinion. Pretty much agree with a lot of your points. To me, the best part of CMR is the recruiting (as you mentioned......mom wants little Joey to play for CMR). I realize CMR has been known as a great OC but I've also noticed that he has gotten way too conservative at times and believe he lost a couple of games against UF because of it. Also believe in the toughness and \"fear factor\" of being a HC and CMR doesn't seem to exemplify that.

My rankings if I had to chose for my program:

1. Saban
2. UM
3. Carroll
4. CMR
5. Stoops

GATORStrong, totally agree with wlayton. This was thrown out for all that have an opinion. When it comes to the point that UGA and UF don't have opinions . . . . we better hang it up. Ha! You were very honest in your post, as I think you are in most of your posts.

An example of coaching, UF had a chance to re-hire SS but went in another direction. That choice made at the round table resulted in UM heading the program, and we can all see the results of that decision.

SS has been with the Gamecocks for a while now, what is missing . . . . the athletes that UM has surrounding him. Gamecocks are like many football teams in the SEC, good year for defense, bad or not so good for the offense. UM has both sides of the ball working, and that is what I call COACHING.

Same can be said for Saban. LSU, Bama, both football teams were \"coached up.\" Coached all the way to the top.

I live in fear that my Dawgs are going to make some of the same mistakes that Phat Phil made at UT. Many good athletes in Athens, have most of my problems with the staff. An example of what I am talking about. . . .Rex Robinson, noted kicking great at UGA said that Blair Walsh was not being handled correctly by his coach. Blair has been kicking the football in the end zone or deep since \"outside coaching\" was posted on the internet. Thanks Rex. Just because some of these people are coaches does not mean that \"outsiders\" don't have a better handle on how to IMPROVE.

wlayton, surprised me a bit. Did not know (of course) that you would rate Stoops last. Here is another case of a coach that has a lot of quality athletes at his disposal. Texas cannot recruit all of the great athletes for their school. Texas like Florida has many super football players.
