Steering the ship back to GA/FL conversation, I find that SDS has their finger on the pulse...
www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/w...d-coaches-back-2018/
They give Mac a 20% chance of returning to Cesspoolville next season. I wonder if there will be masses of FU fans up in arms like many UGA fans were when CMR was given his walking papers? Will we hear the FL fanbase heralding his two SEC East championships in his 2 seasons at the helm? Will we hear them crying out, asking how could a coach with such a winning record be canned after only three seasons, one of those in which he won SEC coach of the year? Will we hear about him having top 10 recruiting classes? Somehow I think not.
I keep my nose pretty close to the ground in the football world in my home state, have many friends back home who watch HS football intently, and eat, sleep, breathe college football. In a nutshell, what I've been told from the Bull Gaytors is that FL's big money is pissed at what they view as a tectonic shift in college football being played in the State of Florida. Florida is no longer a program that is the top of the pack in the State. It is a program that is now lagging behind Miami and USF in terms of talent, fundamentals, gameplay, and recruiting. Mark my words, USF is going to make some noise in the very near future. USF has been on a trajectory to be relevant since the days of Jim Leavitt when they were ranked #2 in the nation, and they're finally getting their place at the big boy table as a major Florida program with Charlie Strong. FU on the other hand, is in disarray.
I can't emphasize enough how furious the FU fan base and big money boosters are with the state of Mac's de-railing program. It is VERY telling that Florida released a statement basically saying that McElwain was challenged by the school on his "death threats" comments to the media and Mac offered no details, therefore, the school wouldn't stand behind them. That speaks volumes as to where both parties are right now. FU didn't have to come out and say that he offered no details to corroborate his statement, it could have remained silent and just let this pass. Instead, the published that in an official press release on the matter.
I watched his presser this Monday, the one with the "death threats" allusion, and that presser was filled with nothing but praise for Kirby from the FU media. It was laughable how the FU media was just heaping praise on Kirby, even going as far as to ask Mac what Kirby is doing to bring such success in Athens and whether he was happy for Kirby. Mac sounded, looked, and conveyed absolute defeat. His body language said he didn't want to be there, he had no answers, and he looked exhausted. If he's exhausted now, wait until after Saturday.
My money is on Mac being gone at season's end in FU's emergency scramble to maintain relevancy and try to abate the utter train wreck that program finds itself in.
As a side note - I'll go out on a limb and say that Jimbo has two more seasons max to turn his failing program around. FSU isn't going to sit idly by as they continue to descend with FU into irrelevancy. Not being bowl eligible for a program like FSU is absolutely unacceptable, injuries or not. FSU is patient, and Jimbo gets another season for sure. But if next season mirrors this one, his seat will be blistering hot by the start of 2019.

Would add UCF to the programs mentioned above.
Remembering Georgia/UCF in Memphis under a different head coach.

UCF beats Georgia 10-6 to claim first bowl win in school history
UCF defense smothers Georgia's potent offense
December 31, 2010|By Iliana Limón, Orlando Sentinel
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Some UCF players danced and hollered, while others had tears streaming down their faces minutes after the biggest win in school history.
No. 25 UCF (11-3) rallied from a sloppy start to claim a 10-6 win over Georgia (6-7) Friday in the Liberty Bowl before an announced crowd of 51,231. It was the first bowl win in school history and the just the second win over a Southeastern Conference opponent since UCF began playing football in 1979.
++++++++++++++++++++++
For sure there is a huge talent shift in the State of Florida. College football is no longer controlled by the Bull gators. FSU is now beginning to hear the far removed sounds of Bobby Bowden disciples.
Still say that SS returning to Gainesville was a message being sent to the current coaching staff and it appears that the Athletic Director is trying to cover his backside.
End with this . . . . Where are all of the voices that were reasoning why Georgia should not release our previous head coach? Game in italics above was played in 2010 and coached by . . . .

James Cook has played against some top high school teams, means a lot when entering the SEC. Bishop Gorman, IMG and many others. Great get by Dell McGee. Also, toss James Coley's name into that area of recruiting. A serious get for the Red and Black.

So would I. It was late last night and was under the influence of a little bourbon.
Yep, you are spot on good sir. This has been the worst kept secret in Cesspoolville. Since the Old Ball Sack weaseled his way back into FU as an "ambassador," the handwriting was on the wall. I would absolutely love to see that happen, because the OBS's brand of football doesn't work any longer. Someone suggested to me recently that Mac will let Nussmeier go at the end of the year and have the OBS as OC next season. I told him that there's no chance that happens. The OBS is far too arrogant to take a backseat to the HC position. It's all or nothing. Bring it on. Put him back in there and watch the program flounder even more.
