Smart and Company Moving Forward

Returned to this thread and read it again. Many spot on posts made.

Believe anyone that could mentally put themselves in Kirby Smart's position, might be even more impressed.

Kirby has been away from Athens for a long time. Comes back home and it is not the same UGA that he once played and coached for.

The time that Kirby spent with General or Admiral Nick Saban in Alabama, Kirby went from Private to being Saban's right hand man. No way any person spends that much time with a man like Saban who has a very direct approach to many issues comes away without being heavily influenced.

Much has been said and written about concerning Kirby's split time between Alabama and Georgia. That alone had to be close to impossible. Kirby Smart, much like his mentor does not believe in the impossible. That is the attitude that has been missing forever in Athens.

Kirby Smart has not taken baby steps since he departed Tuscaloosa and arrived in Athens. Facing any and all issues head on. That for sure has been a lost art in Georgia Football.

Head Coach Kirby Smart says this . . . . No more “stuff”, leadership now resides in Athens. I am glad Smart cared enough about UGA to return. Again, not a doubt that much of what was taught in Tuscaloosa is now finding a place in Athens. There will be some bumps in the road, difference this time around, the “Man” will be out front, just like he was as a player and coach. Refreshing.

Kirby Smart does not hide the fact that he not only believes in the "Saban way", openly refers to others that have been touched by Nick Saban. I like the fact that Kirby is on a mission and he has a plan. Kirby Smart puts all of the pieces together that he will have at some point . . . . there will be a lot of :) 's from Georgia folks.

If you haven't watched the video below . . . .

Media trying to stir it up again. That is the way they make their living.

The legislation that was recently passed calls for a "sit tight" on the release of information for "up to 90 days".

Trampling on First Amendment Rights . . . . you be the judge.

What I see is the media getting put in their place, about time. Yes, I believe in "Free Press", however when was the last time any of us saw "Free Press"? Greeny was a good example of what can happen with comments made from a place that exerts a lot of pressure on those that do not have a "large Free Press outlet". Yes, Disney has a large and loud voice that reaches all over Planet Earth.

Problem arises with a young man, usually press jumps all over reporting football players and their problems. Most folks understand that a problem with other students does not make headlines with the supposed Free Speech folks. Always looking for that "big hit", required by those that "own them".

My way of thinking, a pause for "up to 90 days" could prove beneficial for a young person. Gives those involved with different problems at an early age a chance to be rehabbed, not just kicked in the groin or wherever by those hunting a "scoop".

If a particular issue is truly Earth shattering, 90 days will not be an issue. I truly believe that many of the young football players can and will be turned in a different direction if they receive counseling and yes, penalties by those that issued them a scholarship. I can back that up with cases and facts or happenings in our program that prove this statement to be right.

Sometimes it takes a young person that has been a star in high school time to grasp that certain behaviors are not permitted. Many "learn" from that initial setback. That is my reasoning. Anyone that has served in the military understand what I said. Yes the military, all branches have ways of "changing attitudes". Has worked from day one in the Armed Services. Firing squad is seldom if ever used.

This will be worth watching. Local media(s) don't have a "perch" as high as Greeny, but sometimes "they" like to make believe.

Give'em hell Kirby. More changes to come . . . . bet that. "Bleeding Hearts" have appeared again. Would have us believe it has nothing to do with Mark Richt being "fired". BH's are fighting a losing battle. Yes, will bet that too.

yankeedawg1, thank you.

Chief Growl, you know. You have been there and done that . . . . more than once. That Chief's uniform draws respect from many that were a part of the Navy.

What McGarity had to say about the FOIA and the attachment to a Senate Bill, not only satisfies me, it might be the first thing that Greg McGarity and I have agreed on ever.

Did not get a good vibe from Pouty. He is doing the same things that he has done forever. Wonder if he remembers the Year 2009 and the happenings?

Anyone that has owned or worked for an organization as large as the UGA Athletic Department understands. Busy as the Athletic Department at UGA is, not hard for me to understand stopping in the middle of many issues and answering supposed problems almost immediately . . . . like 3 days.

Media might want to get a grip on their articles concerning Head Coach Kirby Smart. He is not only "clean", he is smooth as "silk". You mess with the "bull", chances are you will get the "horns". Kirby Smart has "horns".

Guess what? Like or dislike the new rule, it is LAW.

Plucked the two paragraphs bold/italicized from the link below.

Many of these folks writing articles for some of the mullet wrappers, one in particular, are not what they believe themselves to be.

I had read that the first time the media covered the Bulldogs out at this venue, there was considerable complaining about the players being almost off in the distance, so much so that you couldn’t accurately report what was going on with the vanilla-like early drills the writers, radio and TV and internet people are allowed to observe.

But as I walked off the UGA bus that carried us to the fields, I was pleasantly surprised. We were allowed to stand right on the sidelines where the defensive linemen, offensive linemen, and tight ends were going through their paces and they were no more than 10 feet away from the media herd.
