Smart and Company Moving Forward

8 years 8 months ago #73148 by Buc
Believe many of us knew at some point the issue(s) in the article below would find their way to Georgia Football.

Cannot start to count the number of posts I have read concerning Alabama Football and "GREYSHIRTING" over many years.

This will be another "crack" for the "Bleeding Hearts" to try and gain a foothold.

We (UGA) can remain stationery or we can move in another direction.

When Kirby Smart was hired, there were and are going to be many changes in our program and the way it will be ran.

If we want to remain as we were for the past x number of years, hiring Kirby Smart and Company was totally going against the way that many feel is the road to success.

If we are breaking the NCAA Rules, we will pay for that. If the change in football development and how it is handled in Athens is allowed, go for it.

There is going to be more change in Athens than simply replacing Richt with Smart and Company. No doubt there is more to come, speaking loudly . . . . Kirby bring it on.

Good read, actually very good read below from The Lady Sportswriter. Kimberley is often a very good read. I do that often.

Go Dawgs

Fantastic article Buc. Thanks for sharing. I love the direction we are moving----aggressive, proactive, GATA attitude.

Coach Smart will adapt.
I have no doubt we will play within the rules.

He will not, however, penalize the program by arbitrarily making Georgia Football the clarion of someone's, guess who, personal, self righteous. moral imperative.

BulldogShannon, so right you are using the word proactive.

Alabama knew that we were being led by a "reactive" coach.

averagedawg, no way that Kirby Smart breaks the rules. Kirby "understands" that he has learned a lot from Saban and his surroundings while serving Nick.

Simple fact . . . . Have yet to see Nick Saban's football teams spend time on the NCAA list requiring them to be penalized. Alabama had its problems prior to Saban and Smart moving to Tuscaloosa.

Hard for me to understand how anyone can look at the day to day changes since Smart and Company arrived in Athens and still have a hard time understanding reasons why changes were made.

See where the "U" is on board with a IPF. Reading a particular article, one would gather from the article that Richt was screaming for a IPF in Athens for years. To that I call BS.

Georgia Football is finally "growing up". Guess it took a UGA Football Player to leave the "mess" that existed in Athens, study under one of if not the best college football mind in the country, and return HOME.

With Kirby Smart leading, I feel we have finally reached a very good place in our football lives . . . . The right to wear the Red and Black, and be respected, finally.

Go Dawgs

BulldogShannon, going back to your post and the word proactive, as compared with the way it was done prior to Smart and Company taking up residence in Athens.

Probably many have read this article, but it shows that there has been a definite change in recruiting in Athens.

Several times I have mentioned that I am somewhat in tune with a lot of what is going on in South Florida, believe SouthernDawg is linked also.

Tremendous amount of talent in South Florida, sitting just a few miles from the "U". Can Richt do a better job of recruiting the talent, or . . . . if he gets the talent on campus, what about the coaching aspect. ???? Ask because I watched how this played out x number of years prior to Smart and Company taking charge.

Reactive, such a good word. :)

EDIT: Hearing that Kirby Smart will bring in a Deshaun Watson type of player to Athens soon. Competition at "every position" will be the special of the day, beginning in Spring Practice. It will be on the menu as long as Head Coach Kirby Smart and Company are in Athens.

Some won't like this or disagree for whatever reason. Allow me to speak my mind about Georgia Football.

Have not made a secret of the fact that VD was not and will never be a favorite of mine.

VD was closely tied to UGA for forty (40) years. Real closely tied.

VD coached the Bulldogs from 1964-88, was athletic director from 1979-2004.

During that span, one (1) National Championship . . . . forty (40) years.

Mark Richt head coach for fifteen (15) years, no National Championship(s).

For an old fart like myself, if my addition is right . . . . that is fifty-five (55) years of frustration.

Have been "called out" by one member on this board, but that was expected on the VD subject.

Excited about Head Coach Kirby Smart and the coaches he has asked to be a part of his group in Athens . . . . what reason do I have not to be "excited" about what I am now looking at. Looking at closely.

I sincerely hope that most of the members of Dawgs.com can believe that we have finally made a change that most of us have been looking for, for many years.

Go Dawgs, leaving the past in the past. That is where it belongs. What say you Erk?
