Then there was this . . . .

DESTIN, Fla. - James Franklin tried to be a thorn in Georgia's recruiting during his three years at Vanderbilt. Now Franklin is further away, all the way up at Penn State, but he's not done trying to recruit in the peach state.Franklin and Penn State staffers will be "guest coaches" at a camp at Georgia State in June. It's part of an effort to boost the Nittany Lions' profile in Atlanta, and capitalize on the inroads Franklin made while at Vanderbilt. Georgia head coach Mark Richt was asked Tuesday if that was any concern to him."They’re recruiting our guys anyway," Richt said. "It’s only an hour to Athens, so it’s not a problem for me."The SEC has a rule that prevents its coaches from doing the same thing, so don't look for Richt to retaliate by holding a camp in Philadelphia. So Richt was asked if, given what Franklin was doing, the SEC should let its coaches do the same. And again, Richt shrugged it off, and sounded like he would prefer to not be tempted. Georgia's head coach is usually in favor of restrictions on recruiting that allow coaches more time to their families in the offseason."You’d like to have, again, you’d like to have some sanity in your offseason, if there is such a thing," Richt said. "One of the things that we voted for at the (AFCA) trustee meeting is a little bit of a dead period – we were shooting for a month dead period in the summer where everybody just had a chance to get to know their wife and kids a little bit. If we were allowed to do that, I think you would just, you and your staff would be spread so thin."Georgia already hosts two summer camps aimed at recruiting, including a Dawg Night and a Mark Richt camp. "We’re blessed that people come to our camps. I think the kids that are really truly interested in Georgia, and kids that love Georgia that just want to get the instruction by our coaches and all that, they’re able to come and they do come," Richt said. "I think there’s so places where you might have to do something like that."

This comment got my attention.
Richt pointed out that NCAA rules are similar, but have a loophole that allows what Penn State and Notre Dame are doing. SEC coaches would like that loophole closed, Richt said Wednesday.

Franklin and others like urban meyer realize what they have to do . . . . recruit in the South and get situated to do it year after year. Not just Auburn and Alabama at this point. Coaches come in from other areas, make footprints and . . . .

While I don't have the answers to the following, seems to me that those coaches outside of Athens are hell bent to make sure their teams have all parts necessary.

Here is what happens during the fall as the #1 posters get back into the game. Yes there are Dawg fans who will be on here only August - January during the season. They will follow closely and be active. They seem to always have a problem with UGA, but only during football season. Hey, that is ok by me. I read their post ,but hey don't get my attention nearly as much as those I read form those who had posted during the summer.. They will always complain about coaches, play calling, lack of depth, color of the helmets, you name it, because they are behind the "eight ball" when it comes to knowledge of what has transpired during the off season. I shouldn't even call it off season, it is really 12 months out of the year. Real college football fans know that not just UGA fans. Season are made or broken February - July.

IMO their complaining and bitching would hold more water if they had at least kept up with football before the first kick off in late August. I am thankful there are some a lot more dedicated and diligent than myself to keep this thing going. Please keep it up and call us our when it is needed. Nuf said.

Go Dawgs! GATA!

BTW this is BS
SEC schools are powerless to retaliate: Conference bylaws say its schools can only hold camps within a 50-mile radius of their own campus.

So you're saying that people who don't post year round are bitchy complainers who don't know anything about or follow college football and aren't real UGA fans. Wow, good post.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

TN Dawg, yesterday Steve came up and posted the following . . . .

FYI: we have almost 4000 twitter followers who are reading the board posts. And 2500 Facebook followers. As you can see our readers go way beyond the number of hits on the site.

This is the point that I am trying to make. Why would 6,500 "outsiders" come to our board if there were no threads to read? Someone has to post something to read, otherwise there is no board in my way of thinking.

Only right for some to take issue with posts that are made here. I know that I do. For the most part I try and give my opinion and back it up. Do I expect to be liked by all, nope. Do I want to be liked by all, yep. That does not mean we cannot have opposing views.

One statement made in this thread mentioned things here being "vanilla". Thought about that comment most of yesterday. Here is where I am on that. Anyone that reads "any" blog or newspaper or internet site can say the same thing.

What I think separates this board from "most" is the "depth" of conversation that often is published on this board. Comments get past the "one liners" and much of the BS that I find elsewhere.

Some say that they read but don't post. Takes me back to this . . . . this board and other internet sites depend on "hits" . . . . traffic. While I am sure that I am boring more often than not, I would like to see this particular board continue to have quality discussions and disagreements, but in the best interest of all who call themselves board members.

Goose said in his post that he was a bit "miffed" at one point. Had every right to be, the chatter was against what he believes when discussing UGA. Seems that there are some others that feel the same now. I probably take more shots on this board than most, that is because I am "loud" and "out there".

TN Dawg, much truth in your post. Yes, I say many of the things you mention in your post. Will openly say this again . . . . University of Georgia football has suffered from a lack of leadership.
