Not sure how many folks on this board feel about certain things, going to try and give an insight to how I see some things at this point concerning defense.
I compare our defensive approach to something I was taught in military service. I was trained in communications and that is what makes our National Defense as secure as it is. We make a mistake or miss a pertinent piece of information and we pay the consequences. Pearl Harbor, 9-11, Benghazi, Libya and on and on. There were times when I would sit down and operate a key sending and receiving Morse Code. Many times there were several (lots) of people on the same circuit.
Some folks could operate at a much higher speed than others. Some folks can throw a football 70 yards or so, others don’t come close to that. Same applies to baseball. When operating we were taught to never send faster than the slowest person on the circuit could receive. While that bothered some folks, it however was the way to get the message to everyone. Common sense, not personal glory.
In my opinion, let me emphasize that point, my opinion. Our coaches have not played to that theory. We are trying to play faster than we are capable of playing. Is there fault in some not being as fast as others grasping a complicated system and playing at maximum speed, don’t think it is a fault of the player or players. That lies solely with the instructor.
Watched the competition between Brendan Langley and Shaq Wiggins. We opened the season with Langley playing, soon thereafter Wiggins was the starter. After the replacement occurred saw Shaq make some mistakes. Don’t hear a peep as to why the replacement was made either by the defensive backfield coach of the defensive coordinator. Like it is none of our business to try and understand, don’t do as I do, do as I say do. This is just one example, could and might site many more that are openly apparent.
Said earlier, the “spin machine” is in full operational mode at this point. There are problems in Athens and they go much deeper than what we are allowed to see. A lot of the “spin” will soon be the recruits that will be heading to Athens.
Read other places where “next year” our defense will be better. Why? Because many will return after a year of experience. That sometimes, many times, is a crutch. Still comes down to this . . . . Cannot go faster than the slowest player on the field that only grasps 80 or 90% of the playbook but are expected to play at the speed of those that understand the playbook 100%.
We have a serious instructor problem in Athens. That is not one instructor in my way of thinking, you be the judge. Do not know where the defensive coordinator would be more effective, especially with his attitude, maybe we would be better served if he was released and let him go out in the world and perform at whatever percentage he is capable of. Payton of the Saints did not want him, that was window dressing. Head Coach, seems to take the “big bucks” over pursuing the ministry. Might be a very good man in the ministry, not showing a lot as a D1 football coach.
At some point in the near future folks are going to recognize that our coaches are not instructing at 100%. Pick and choose your own percentage, Buc does not like seeing talented young men shy away from Athens because they know that crossing the Chattahoochee and playing in Tuscaloosa they will be coached up to 100% of their ability. Instructors there understand the “formula”.
I compare what is going on with our head coach and defensive coordinator to what is going on in Washington, D.C. with Obamacare. Need to dump what this defensive coordinator has done and head coach has allowed, start over with what these young pups can handle and watch the results. Both are stubborn and self indulging to the point of no return. Remind me of a brace of mules.
