I just wish we had the committment to depth on the O-line we seem to have for the QB position..
That has been a problem that many of us are aware of. Have always looked to the offensive and defensive lines with what little knowledge I have about the game of football. That falls squarely on the shoulders of those at the top.
Seems to me we were up on the offense, down on the defense, sound familiar this season? Or, up on the defense and down on the offense. At some point the folks that look at the recruiting board (everyday) have to come to a meeting of the minds at some point.
If we sign the players that have said they will move to Athens in 2014, it will be the most balanced group of recruits that I have seen in a while. There is room for disagreement on that statement, just appears that way to me.
We always seem to have several quarterbacks in Athens. There have been times in the recent past that I scratched my head wondering why that was the case. Not always going to have a player like AM that will take the beatings he has and continue to play, understand that also.
If we have a couple of quarterbacks on our roster that will never see the field, or seldom see the field, makes me "wish" we had used our recruiting numbers a different way. Also understand that you can never be sure when the quarterback will go down. Does that not also apply to offensive and defensive linemen? The strength and pace of todays college football games carry no guarantees on injuries.
Saban has had a quarterback running his team for a while now. Wonder why . . . . I know that he has a solid front that allows him to be what he is. Defense, check the Alabama/LSU game out this weekend, which I feel sure most will do. What prevents us from having the same type performances we will see Saturday night?
Supposedly we are armed with great recruiters. Won't get too much of a rise out of me on that. So, how does that play out year after year? Yes, came real close against Alabama, but . . . . won't bring up the close in horseshoes thingy.
If the group of coaches that we have now cannot stand shoulder to shoulder with Alabama, LSU (most of the time) and win consistently . . . . What is the answer? Our leadership has been in Athens since 2001, we have the Dean of SEC Coaches, after the Vanderbilt fiasco, most of my questions were answered.
Yes I do understand that we are not going to fire Mark Richt. Could it possibly be that Mark Richt has grown tired like Bobby Bowden did? Can we expect new life from our leader? Has he come upon a new elixir? Talent is there, has been for some time. What prevents us from being recognized as one of the top five football universities in the country?
If injuries are brought into the conversation, I say you need to focus on the "big picture". Again, every football team has injuries. Their name might not be Todd Gurley, but those that play for other universities are just as important to their team as Gurley is to ours.
Personally, was hoping to see some "magic" happen with this team, and if I was a betting man, would bet most of the players felt the same way at the beginning. Believe I have seen some lapses, but I don't put that on the players. That comes down to understanding your position and playing "your part" of team football. Can't give any free passes out at this time, getting long in the tooth, want to see some "magic" happen. That starts with the leader.
