Usually a day or two after a game, find myself going back over the posts. Many times I read or maybe take the time to really assess what a particular post meant.
Found myself doing that with post #10 by DawgnLA today. He is absolutely right about not changing the way this team is being coached. If changes are needed and I feel sure it happens more often than we know, coaches will make them. Might take some longer than others, (coaches) not unlike players. Some get it quicker than others.
Have thoughts on both sides of the ball, but here and now the defense.
Our defense had a lot of different numbers on the field against LSU. To me, says a lot. Can remember in the last few years watching the same numbers trotting back on the field, series after series. Cost us big time against Alabama last year. There will never be a doubt in my mind that we would have had a lot of fun with Notre Dame, had we gotten past Alabama.
DawgnLA is spot on and I say that for this reason. We are now able to substitute and not really lose anything player talent wise. So many of these young men will return next season, they will play faster next season, they will also bring the young puppies along the right way. Right way meaning they will learn from those that are a year or more wiser and that carries the tag, veterans.
That is how a team that has high hopes gets to the top, building depth. This group of players (2013) understand that someone coming in is not because you are playing bad or missing assignments, it is team football. This has been practiced in Tuscaloosa for several years now. Seems they understand what it takes to win it all. Trophy case proves the point.
Grantham has said more than one time that he will have different lineups. Makes sense, not everyone has the same talents. Baseball is the same way, sometimes you have to bring that lefthander in that throws a screwball. Next game might need that flame throwing righthander to finish the drill.
Don't know for sure which of the recruits will head to Athens to represent the 2014 Class, but would wager after LSU that something good will happen before February. Mark Richt sort of showed his hand in a statement he made. He was busy with recruiting and had not had time the next day to look at film. That is another thing, he has a group of coaches that take care of UGA when he has other things to do.
Should not say this, but will . . . . Wille see you in Knoxville. Here is hoping that you still teach your defensive backs to not look for the balls thrown downfield when playing man. You were given every chance to succeed at Georgia, Oklahoma, Auburn and now you are coaching the Tennessee Volunteers defensive backs. You left Athens with your lips poked out, hope Saturday on national TV we can extend them a little more. You are where you are because of Mark Richt. Some folks just never seem to get it.
Go Dawgs, I still remember a time when the Vols put it to us several years back. Return the butt whipping.
