Time to Talk Georgia/Clemson

Earlier in the recruiting process many of us were beating the drums for offensive linemen. If every player that has committed signs the dotted line, 2014 is going to be a very good year for the big'uns.

I am aware of Isaiah Wynn from St. Pete. Get some free time, look him up on youtube.

A good friend of mine from Lowndes was spot on with UGA getting Dyshon Sims.

Appears to me that Will Friend is looking for a certain body type. Not looking to bring in big guys with "weight". Too many times the huge linemen have to work really hard to get into SEC playing weight/shape. Also, many times the same guys don't have that needed stamina to go for long periods . . . . effectively.

Much easier for JTII and his group to take the "lighter" players and add the productive weight. We see much of that happening since JTII took command of S&C.

It is a beautiful thing when a team can recruit a 300+ lineman and he turns out to be all that. Not saying they aren't out there, they are, but how many of these young men end up being any better or as good as the players Friend is recruiting and JTII is putting through his system . . . .

Reason I mention some of this is I have always been an observer of offensive line play. Yes, defensive line play also. They are different. Looking back at some of the really great offensive lines over the years, I like the way this coaching staff is going about its business. More positive movement by offensive linemen being trained the Will Friend/JTII way.

Have some acquaintances that get really excited when a player is recruited and is somewhere around the 350 mark. Too often they don't look at the competition these young men are facing off against in high school. Things change quickly when these young folks walk onto a practice field in the SEC. Ain't high school.

Best I can gather about the Clemson team is their offensive line is supposed to be their strength . . . . discounting the "other two players" of course. Clemson will have some "large offensive linemen" facing what I believe to be one of the better defensive lines that is being built right now to play a solid game against the Tigers.

Goose, TS was a heart breaker. I have never pulled harder for a young player than I did for him. Sturdivant is a very intelligent young man, while his future is not playing football, one thing for sure, he will be very successful.

Could not let this pass. DAWGtm, agree with your assessment of Todd Grantham maybe "over coaching" in some instances. When I say that, have to say this . . . . Last season when we really review the tape, there was a major failure on more than one occasion on the defensive line. Some of them committed to return for one more year, problem with that, they did not play their position the way Grantham's defense was laid out. Too bad, but some were trying to move up in the draft or just get drafted.

With the departure of Garner and Wilson coming in, maybe I am wrong, but it appears to me that there have been "changes" in attitudes.

Won't be surprised to see 4 and 5 man fronts constantly against Clemson. Grantham wants Tajh to see a lot of Bulldog Helmets. One more thingy . . . . we played a lot of 4 man fronts last season, had to, some of the defensive linemen did not like to play their gaps.

My opinion. :)

Edit . . . .
Moved away from this board and read some views of others. Had not read the link below prior to scribbling what I did above. Just heartens me to think myself and others are on the right track.

Hey Yall, I do think we pull it out. However I think it will be a shootout. For whatever reason We Always start Slow our first game of the year. But this year we MUST start off Fast and keep our foot on the Gas pedal. As I said before I think this one could be 50 to 45 UGA on TOP!!! I never liked Garner , I thought he underacheived as a coach. I look at all the great D-lineman that we sent to the NFL and see how much better they looked after. He could recruit but not coach um up IMO. Glad to hear CW is Bringing a new attitude to our D-line it is much needed. I also think we win this game in the 4thQT I think we wear them down. Also I hope and pray we RUN the ball down their throats in the 4th and not pass 3 out of 4 plays I do worry about INTS. And dont get me wrong I love AM. he is the MAN tough as nails but he must cut out the INTS this season. So imo we should throw it first half then wear um out on the ground 2nd half and control the clock keep our D off the field and not score too fast. Then come back to Athens And punch that *&%$#$@ Spurior and the cocks right in the mouth!!! GO DAWGS and Looking forward to another trip back to the GA Dome this season.

Going to be interesting in the next week, or soon after the next scrimmage as to where our players will be located on the offensive line.

All of us know that it is time to get the "starting unit" on the field together taking the higher number of snaps. Coaches have said that.

Going this far into Fall Camp after Spring Camp, not being totally sure who would be starters, encourages me rather than wondering like I did a while back. Makes me think that we have more than a thin group that can play SEC football on the offensive line. Been a long time coming. UGA with depth, that could be a beautiful thing in the future.

First three games are going to demand that we have depth along the offensive line. Really encouraging to me that Will Friend has some positive words about Kublanow. No doubt that he will see a lot of action in his freshman year, otherwise Friend is not "singling" him out at this point.

We know that he is nasty, strong and smart. He will need to control himself a bit, some on the other side of the ball will try to "rile the rookie up". Don't want stupid penalties.

You and I both know that Will Friend "already" knows who will start, that is if there are no further injuries.

Speaking penalties, hope that we get a well officiated game against Clemson. Let the players play.

DAWGtm, don't think that I have referred back to the same post twice since being on this board. Your post really got my attention.

Went surfing again and came up with this. Maybe you haven't read it. I particularly paid attention to the posts to the article.

Have mentioned before on this site that Jenkins gaining weight to 370 or so and then when the NFL draft came, Jenkins was quick to let everyone at the NFL LEVEL know that he had lost 25/30 pounds. To me, that is a slap in the face. All about me.

Like one poster wrote, where was Garner when all of this weight was being put on. Should not say this, but will . . . . maybe Jenkins and Garner were doing the buffet lines together.
