Have read in a couple of different places that UGA is planning on speeding up play calling this season. Usually that talk is referenced to Malzahn and AU.
Maybe some don't know this, probably some do. Mark Richt while the offensive coordinator at FSU is the man that came up with the type of speed calls that Malzahn has used both in high school and college.
Officials stopped Mark Richt in his efforts to play "speed football". Claiming they (the officials) could not get in place quickly enough to give the defense a fair opportunity to line up. Pretty amazing when one thinks about the small number of officials that cannot get in place, however the other 22 players on the field can.
What I am trying to say is Gus Malzahn is light years behind Mark Richt when playing "speed ball".
Appears to me that this offensive team can "speed" play calling up, one reason for that is the experience the offensive side brings to the table in 2013.
Another reason . . . . more than once, many times as a matter of fact, Mike Bobo and Mark Richt have said that AM knows "their" game backwards and forwards. AM also reads defensive alignments better than any quarterback in the SEC in my opinion.
Ever wonder if the large group that remained in Athens over the summer break have been practicing some "speed football"? If we do speed it up, sure as heck changes the way defenses around the SEC will face off with Georgia. Just another tool coming out of the shed.
Mark Richt started this in 1991 at FSU. Officials made him "slow" the "speed" game down. Fact. Reasoning . . . . not fair to the defense as mentioned above. Times change.
This could also be the reason that we are going to substitute liberally on defense. Wilson knows that he has to have some air in the lungs of his defensive front because the offense will probably get close to 90-100 plays called and ran. Not too far from that now.
Just a thought folks. Find out soon enough.
One more thing. Welcome back Kolton Houston. Emmert got his head out of his behind . . . . JTII had a conversation with the NCAA president. Maybe JTII threatened Emmert with a headlock . . . . joking of course.
JTII and S&C was mentioned in post #10 in this thread.
