How many times have we already seen "wide right" or "wide left"? Too many. That philosophy simply doesn't win National Championships.

You know what I think would be hilarious? If we found out that Nick Saban is a Christian. Then what would be the difference between winning and losing? Faith? I don't think so.

Belief is belief, winning is winning, losing is losing, and coming close is losing too.

Nick Saban was born in Fairmont, West Virginia. He is married to Terry Saban (née Constable) from West Virginia. They have two children, Nicholas and Kristen. He is a devout Roman Catholic, and has a Mass said before every game.

HA! A devout Christian, is he? So faith AIN'T the difference, then, is it? HA! Thank you, Buc. You just proved something I've said all along - faith has nothing to do with it. Belief is belief, winning is winning, losing is losing, and coming close is losing too.

Just my two cents....

I don't think it is wise to make this about any one's personal belief's. I am a Christian, like Mark Richt, and I could debate with you all day long the differences between a relationship with Jesus Christ, and a devout Catholic, but this is not the forum.

Mark Richt's relationship with Jesus Christ drive's him in everything he does, not just football...

I'm jut asking that we don't get on Mark Richt because he has Christian beliefs, and is very vocal about them, and that it drives him. There are enough other things to talk about in football.

Love the forum, just had to speak up on this one.

My take on this: Being a Christian means following Christ in every phase of your life, not just paying homage to God 1 day a week. So everything one does should be filtered through the teaching of Jesus Christ - to simplify it, "What Would Jesus Do?" In no way am I accusing Saban of cheating, or of committing a grave sin, but there was an issue a while back about Saban oversigning recruits, then sending some of them away shortly before the season started if they did not fit the needs of the team at the time. If I remember correctly, a few on this board were getting after him about that issue. Is it against the rules? No. Oversigning is not in the SEC/NCAA rulebooks Actually having more than 85 scholarship players is. This is a gray area. A man of Richt's character, integrity, and faith will run that issue through that filter. Personally, I have no problem with that whatsoever, because it is the right thing to do. A championship won when you know you have cheated or broken the rules (that may be a bit redundant there) is a championship not worth having in Richt's book, nor mine.

Don't think religion has anything to do with it. I too am a Christian, but I never wanted CMR to be our coach because he was a Christian. I do not think it alters one bit. I played for a man in college who I never heard say a curse word. That man won 5 national championships. Tebow was a devout Christian, worked out pretty good for him in college.

Believing what Richt, myself and others believe, football championships are not the most important victory in life. Doesn't mean we don't have a competitive desire, and a desire to be great.

I didn't think in terms of "Hope they hire a solid Christian man", either, but when I heard of Richt's faith, I though, "hey that's great!" I knew he would want to win the right way. AD5, I do agree totally with your last paragraph.

Ah . . . I agree with EVERY SINGLE POST since my last one. My point was obviously missed.

I'm not saying that BECAUSE Richt is Christian, he can't be a great coach - far from it - I'm saying that perhaps Nick Saban (whether you have an issue with Catholicism or not) is just as Christian (maybe not as openly evangelical about it). And this IS the point. I'd be willing to bet that if you took a survey of every national championship winning coach over the last 20 years, most ARE Christian (or would at least describe themselves as such). I'll bet you'd be hard pressed to find a bible burning atheist in the bunch.

The POINT is that FAITH has NOTHING to do with winning and losing. But the article plainly paints the attitude at the university as being one that is OKAY with NOT winning championships because we are clean. My issue with THAT is - what's wrong with being clean AND WINNING a national championship?

I say be OPENLY Christian (many on this forum HAVE criticized Richt for precisely that), and WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS!

One thing I want to say about where all of us or most of us lay our beliefs. Recently I was with a group and the conversation got around to more than football.

One of the couples that I consider to be in my "special friendship group" said to me, Wilson you understand that we only believe in the Old Testament. To my lady friend that made that comment I said . . . . I do understand and I also know that we all believe in the same Lord and Saviour. I follow one verse of scripture that has carried me through many trying times. John 3:16.

thriller, I understand where you are coming from and also understand that there will be those that come from nowhere when the opportunity presents itself.
