Started in the early going, prior to first game thinking that I had seen a change in Mark Richt’s demeanor. While that might or might not be true, one thing that I did see was a repeat of seasons past. Coach speak is one thing, play calling and team preparation for the season opener certainly looked like more of the same to me.
Real hard for me to look at AM and ask myself if he is any better than what I have seen in the past. Can’t cut AM any slack this year, don’t care if Mike Bobo is calling the plays or the head coach. What I saw was a young man that apparently is not, repeat “is not” playing the team game. Maybe should not say this, but . . . . Appears to me that AM is thinking about breaking UGA’s passing records. He could do that, but the approach he is taking does not come under the realm of team play. Not sure at this point what he supposedly learned at the Manning Camp, what I saw against Buffalo today in no way showed the tremendous improvement that has been reported and self proclaimed. Beginning to cringe a bit when I hear AM refer to some of the newer players as “kids”. AM is not that far along in his life cycle to refer to folks that are maybe two or three years younger than himself as kids. Don’t see a lot of gray in his hair nor did I see gray in his short lived beard. While he understands the playbook from page 1 through ?? (supposedly huge), he still seems to have a double dose of nervousness, showed its ugly face more than once today. Quite frankly, was excited when he came out of the game.
Young man (Christian LeMay) came in and used his “wheels” to gain some yardage. Tread lightly young man, Mike Bobo and Mark Richt like for their quarterbacks to stay in the pocket. That is fine, just one thing, every defensive player knows approximately where you are on every pass play. Appears the two of them are not up to “change”. Spurrier and other coaches appreciate that more than words can say. All or most of us on this board have discussed that before.
What had me really disturbed today was not seeing our tightends being used for anything other than moving the pile. Add to that, think I saw our starting fullback carry the ball one time. Will stop about the offensive side with this . . . . Our coaches were doing that purposely, don’t want to give anything away to our next opponent. That is what I really like about our coaches, they game plan “wisely” from game to game.
Defense. I watched the offensive line for Buffalo move our much ballyhooed defensive front around more than we would expect. Is what we saw today what we really are to expect from that group? Too many players on the defensive side trying to make that “splash” play. Take care of your area, it is a long season and you are being scouted every time you put the cleats on. That is the way that game plans are drawn up, several folks looking for a weakness or tendency. You folks on this board know that, maybe I am over reacting to the first game of the season.
Know that we were playing with some young men in the defensive backfield, not a lot of “real game time” for most of them. They can thank their teammates for that, the selfish ones that watched the game from the sideline. Also saw some linebackers with enough experience doing things that only selfish players do. Saw Jarvis jump into the middle of the “big men” to make some stops and maybe “show” them how things should be done.
Ogletree, get your head out of your butt, short time on campus, and here you are watching when you should be a man among players with lesser talent than you have. Think the pros don’t have a pair of glasses on watching either . . . . They do. Stop stealing and smoking or watch the dollars go down the drain. You are not bigger than the game of football, you might think so . . . You however will find out the hard way. You were blessed with tremendous talent, but you will find out at the next level, that the players aren’t there because they have a scholarship, they are there to earn a living. They don’t give those spaces or positions up easily. They become “nasty” and they are men.
Rambo, don’t have much to say about folks that are in denial. Lots of interceptions, learn how to tackle, we both know that you were way down on the list of the NFL, therefore you returned. Returned and started with a suspension. Way to go, stupid is as stupid does.
Kudos to the Buffalo Bulls. Score might not tell the entire or “true” story. Bunch of scrubs pushing and clawing and playing football. Good on you young fellows, nothing to be ashamed of.
Going to watch Clemson and Auburn and see just how good or bad we are.
Go Dawgs!! Not sure if the coaches understand “coach’em up” . . . All of the coaches.
