Mentioned this last season and this point still sticks in my mind.
At the time I was all over Mark Richt, thinking he is the head coach, buck stops there. Enters the recruits home and makes a huge impression on many of the Mothers, apparently saying that their young men will be in good hands with him while in Athens. Feel sure some of the recruits want to please Mom and go in the direction that Mothers think best. Makes sense to me. Some of these recruits have had their parents thinking that they were doing the right thing while in high school. Also makes sense to me. All of us have had our way of pleasing those that are the closest to us.
Once these young men get on campus, seems it does not take too long for them to figure out that they can and will live by their rules. That as we all know has happened far too often in UGA’s recent past. Many of these players have lived a life that CW suggests we know nothing of. I begin to think that CW is playing the race card. Who is he to speak so openly about what you and I did. Or, what we know and don’t know. I call BS . . . CW.
Another thought enters my mind. Why is Mark Richt the only coach that gets called on the carpet for the mistakes of these young folks. I understand as it has been said in many places that Mark Richt cannot oversee 85 or so athletes. I totally agree with that. I also think that many of these young men are street smart and know how to move around Mark Richt, and do. Mom is not around, and young folks are going to push the envelope, some get away with “things”, others are not so lucky.
Many of our problems seem to be in the basket of our running backs. Why is our running back coach not being held responsible for some of the 85 athletes? Another thought, why do we not hear Mike Bobo’s name mentioned when problems occur. Mike Bobo is the Offensive Coordinator, personally I think he and Brian McClendon are getting a free ride on the player development issue. Might be that Mark Richt wants it that way, if it continues the person that will suffer the most will be Mark Richt. I do not believe that McGarity will let this continue to happen.
When I read the scouting reports, one of the areas I look at is the coach that is recruiting that particular player. Mike Bobo’s name pops up often, especially with the young men from South Georgia, and we all know that has been a hot bed for talent for many years and will continue to stay that way. My understanding is McClendon basically lived with Isaiah Crowell throughout the process. Did he not see any flaws, were they hidden that well? Maybe Brian needs to look a bit closer, and also when mistakes are made, step up and accept some of the blame, if not all.
This is not a get out of jail card for Mark Richt, it just makes me step back sometimes and try to get the “real picture” as to what is going on in Athens.
Sorry to be so long, as I have said before, Cornelius Washington was one of my favorite recruits from the get go. Came to campus, worked hard, put on good muscle and benefited from Athens in a way that will send him on to the NFL. To CW I say this, check this board out and some of the comments from folks that are not racist, they are dyed in the wool UGA supporters. One post I suggest you read CW is the post from Wartdawg and another from fire_dawg, they lay it out in grand fashion.
Go Dawgs, as CW was quoted as saying basically . . . The Brothers will stick together, hope that is true. If you like CW, maybe many that support the “Team” not distributors of BS could just stay home. What a sight that would be in Sanford Stadium. Check with President Adams and see what he thinks about that. This is your last year, maybe you can get through the season without sitting on the pines “again”.
Any of the names below ring a bell Brian McClendon?
In 2011, he coached SEC Freshman of the Year tailback Isaiah Crowell, who led the team in rushing with 850 yards and five TD's. As a first year coach he helped develop two of the SEC's most promising young backs: sophomore Caleb King (114x594 yards, 5.2 yards per carry, 7 TD's) and true freshman Washaun Ealey who led the team in rushing with 125x717 5.7 yards per carry, and 3 TD's.
Just saying . . . .
