Discussing running backs, if you have ESPN3, there is a replay of yesterdays Shriners game between North Carolina and South Carolina high schoolers. Todd Gurley is all that. wow! Some college is going to get a super running back. Tough kid. :)

I think all here want to see IC do well. And i agree with IC. More help needed in backfield. Don't think he was ready to shoulder the entire load.

Dawg backfield will be stronger next year. Competition will be strong and I for one am looking forward to it. Trick will be getting enough touches for all the backs. I think next year we will go with the team approach, however in two years one guy will rise to the top.

We have a lot to look forward to.

TN Dawg, if we get one or two more backs that are rated highly, along with IC who we know has talent, agree with your post of running back by committee. It will be for one of the backs to move ahead of the others by performance, not just because.

Also agree with you about IC. Not ready for the SEC type of football nor was he ready for college in general. I will be bold enough to say he needs some "seasoning" and that includes more than carrying the pigskin.

TN Dawg, I cross my fingers that Friend will develop our offensive line to a point that the only thing we say about the offensive line is . . . wow.

Know this is going to be a busy week, wishing all on this board a very Merry Christmas. My wish from Santa is this . . . bring the UGA football team all of the recruits that Richt and company are reaching for. Know Santa that they won't fit in a stocking by the fireplace, so if you would, deposit them in Athens.

Go Santa, Go Dawgs . . . . :)

Good call, Buc. I think the offensive line grew quite a bit over the year, which some folks didn't think was going to happen. Didn't surprise me, and I think Friend will have the "big uglies" ready to clear the path for whoever decides to step up and carry the ball.
I also hope Santa is listening to you!!

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

sadlerdawg, thinking about the improvement you mention on the offensive line. First recall I had that stuck was the LSU game, first half, prior to the undoing. The offensive line did yeoman type work against arguably the best defense in college football. Time to throw the ball, just had a couple of critical near misses for touchdowns.

Might eat my words later, but I am on board with Friend, and from the way the line improved from the first game until the next to last game against LSU was impressive for the most part. Friend has what appears to be some serious backups learning their trade now, also has what appears to be substantial help coming in the way of freshmen. Said it a time or two before on this board, AM has to be loving this.

If I were in Hutson Mason's shoes, think that I would transfer to another school. I also think that Hutson is a good quarterback that can become a very good quarterback. If UGA gets on a roll next season, don't think that Richt will take his foot off of the gas pedal, he knows that Mac is looking for us to be all we can be. That to me means, AM will quarterback 90% of the time. Not a lot of quality playing time for Hutson. Hutson Mason can play quarterback at a high level for some college, no doubt. Know that Bobo really likes him. No way the coaches can promise Mason a lot of playing time.

Really hope that the offensive coaches are ready to use all of the talent that is sitting on the offensive side of the ball at present, and those that we are hoping arrive in Athens with this class.

Go Dawgs . . . Michigan State is coming to Tampa to beat a SEC team. Alabama gave them a taste of SEC football, now they want to find out if that was real or a fluke.

Get'em ready coaches.

Edit: Reasons for excitement . . .

OT John Theus 6/6 295 lbs.
OT Chester Brown 6/5 330 lbs. (Think this young man is going to be an awesome guard).
OT Greg Pyke 6/5 310 lbs.
OT/DT John Atkins 6/4 300 lbs. (Probably be a offensive/defensive fight for John).
OL Mark Beard 6/4 290 lbs.

Don't know much about Mich St., other than the reputation of the Big Ten, tough at the line of scrimmage.
Doubt they have seen our speed on defense.
I think Coach Friend probably has a few blocking schemes ready to pull out of his pocket.
We really need this win.
