into the situation... here are two main recurring themes that keep coming up.
The first is that Malzahn absolutely despises any interference from the HC regarding his
offense. His problems with HN stemmed from that, and his supposed problems with Chizzy are
for the same reason.
Second thing I kept seeing mentioned was that the Malzahn star has been falling pretty fast.
Interest in him from major universities has been waning since last year when he was a pretty
hot commodity.
Wartdawg, did some digging and came up with this. Knew there were a couple of problems with Mustain and his family and the coaches, think this article pretty much tells the story to this point. Thanks for looking, you seem to have a good grip on "things".

The Springdale Bulldogs were 14-0 in 2005 under coach Gus Malzahn. With Mustain manning Malzahn's spread offense, the Bulldogs won the Arkansas Class 5A state championship.
"Mitch was the most accurate quarterback I'd ever seen," Malzahn said.
Following 2005, Mustain and six Springdale teammates, including current Tennessee Titans wide receiver Damian Williams, went with Malzahn to Arkansas.
"If the opportunity presents itself to play with your high school coach at the next level, it's a no-brainer," Williams said. "Playing under Coach Malzahn made sense."
Malzahn joined then-coach Houston Nutt's staff as an offensive coordinator. Mustain competed with sophomore Casey Dick for the quarterback job. When Dick was injured before the start of the 2006 season, the job went to Mustain. Mustain led Arkansas to eight consecutive victories. But leading up to the ninth game of the year against South Carolina, Nutt noticed a shift in Mustain's demeanor.
"It looked like something was really wrong," Nutt said. "At South Carolina, he threw a pick in the first series. Dick went in and won a huge game."
Said Mustain: "I didn't feel any pressure. Sometimes you make mistakes."
Dick led the Razorbacks to a 26-20 win, regaining the starting job as Arkansas finished the season 10-4. After the season, Malzahn took Tulsa's offensive coordinator job and Mustain went to Nutt, seeking a change.
