Spurrier to Stay in Columbia

AllDawgs5 we know what we have on the first unit. Then I think about Ramik Wilson, who I know will be a favorite in the Red and Black. Couple of rumors still hanging around about Kent Turene making the grades necessary to wear the uniform. Even with that, this defense is positioned to cause a lot of problems to the enemy next season. Think that we will get to see some of the young talent play some in Tampa. Ramik's home forty. However, Coach Grantham will only play him if he deserves to play.

Not much being said about Mark Beard. This really has my attention. MB has played man-up football and is now wearing the Red and Black because of Friend. Mark Beard will start on the UGA offensive line next season. Friend went after and got a player that lots of D1 schools wanted.

Finally, the coaching staff as a WHOLE are getting together and coaching TEAM BALL. For example, Coach Grantham's moving Ogletree to linebacker. Ogletree was playing lights out in the secondary. Guarantee you that if WM had been the coordinator, Ogletree would never have landed at linebacker. I love and appreciate good, heads up coaching.

Individual talent, can only agree with you AllDawgs5, bow to you on that one . . . :)

Edit: Another reason to be on Friend's side is the case of Mark Beard. MB knows, has played for Friend. Must have liked the man (Friend) and his coaching techniques.

There was a longtime connection between the 6-foot-5, 297-pound Beard and UGA OL coach Will Friend.

Beard is from the Birmingham, Ala., area and was recruited by Friend while he was an assistant at UAB. Beard will have three years of eligibility at UGA.

Once again about Malzahn accepting the HC job:

Strike while the iron is still somewhat hot.

He had enough success as OC at several schools. Arkansas, Tulsa, and his first
couple of years at Abuurn

BUT

Teams.. especially in the SEC are catching up to his offense. He had one year where
he caught some people by surprise. He had a second year where Cam was able to
overcome people catching up to his O schemes. Then he had this year where without
Cam, the Abuurn O was not good unless playing a vastly inferior opponent.

One more year of that and his HC star would wane significantly, and any HC offers
might end.

However, he can go to a Sun Belt school that is already pretty talented relative to
a majority of the competition there, and stand a good chance of success that may
allow that job to be a stepping stone to a bigger one. While staying at Abuurn may
see a big water hose unleashed on his brand of fire unless he finds another Cam,
post-haste.

I want to believe that is why he is leaving, but I just can't. He could have a HC job at mid-major regardless of what he does at aub. Already having won a NC as a coordinator can never be erased from his resume, and would be plenty to fill a HC vacancy at the level arkansas st. plays. Guy must want to be his own boss real bad to walk away from that kind of money.

Ex. would be Dave Clawson. Never heard so many people bash a coach. He absolutely tanked when he was at ut. Gets fired, and ends up being the HC at Bowling Green. Now, he did have some success at the Div 1AA level, but he was horrible at ut.

Something just not adding up to me why both coordinators bailed. Guessing we will probably never know though. I am turning the page on it though. Guessing my hope that aub get busted is giving me a biased view. I will always hope they get busted now though cause Mr. Cheapshot. I don't think I will ever forget about those hits.

Looking around and came up with the information below. Had to be more than what most of us have read or speculate about the Malzahn/Chizik situation. Of course the below could be speculation, does however come closer to the truth in my mind. Did watch some of the action this year between Chizik and Malzahn during the game, did not appear to be best buddies. Speculation also.

Chuck Oliver (who is an Auburn alum) speaking on 680AM (the zone) in Atlanta, today said that his sources are telling him Malzahn is taking a pay cut to get out from continued working with Gene Chizik. Apparently there was some challenges in the working relationship between the two, specifically Malzahn was upset with Chizik butting in on the offense, more specifically Chizik wanted Malzahn to slow things down, not go after 85 to 90 offensive snaps per game, in order to give his defense some time to rest. Malzahn's opinion is "hey, I was hired and given a pay raise to run my offense, so butt out" while Chizik's opinion is "hell, I'm the head coach, you going to run the offense I want". Both are valid opinions, but they are water and oil. Malzahn saw his stock go down this year, and he knew things were not going to be any better next year which would result in his stock continuing to drop, so he knew he had to jump ship now. Chuck Oliver also mentioned that the Vandy job offer last year was really a $1.7M offer, not the $3 million that is widely being discussed; he said the $3M level would have included bonus items which were unrealistic. If Chuck Oliver's opinion is correct on this, and I believe him to be correct, it all makes a lot more sense on why Malzahn would leave.

Interesting he takes a job at half the salary to coach at Arky State.

Yeah, she's half-baked...

I'm not going to deny there may be more going on that helped him make the decision... Abuurn going down, problems with Chizzy.. I'm just saying that even without those possibilities, I can still
see someone who wants to be a HC taking the opportunity when it's there. For me it's not so mystifying to think too much about it, but yeah.... more stuff could definitely be going on as
well that made it an even easier decision.
