wlayton I agree with the 90% change. What I thought you might do is maybe mention some of the things that I said in another thread recently to (I think it was) southernlover.
Guess that I come from the school that frowns on enabling. If Richt had his hands full prior to some staff changes, then it is evident that he needed help. I don't know if Richt asked for help or the situation from the last few years concerning football dictated someone needed to step in.
Have said more than once on this forum that I am not a big believer in Adams. When those Sanford Stadium seats are not filled, especially the student section, bothers me a great deal. Apparently it bothered Adams and others, as they came out in public asking for folks to attend our games. Can't recall that happening in UGA football for many, many years.
Richt came from FSU having coached only the offense in college. Did pretty well and all of us were thrilled with Richt. Then at some point the wheels began coming off and some of us started to question the lack of results we were looking for, especially with the talent that we had every year on campus. Mostly top five and ten talent.
If we seriously look at some of Richt's appointments, we have to ask ourselves, is he really ready to handle the head coaching job. Don't have to go into the WM thing, he took care of that in 2009, not 2010.
Not sure, but I think that prior to the "Dream Team" recruiting had slipped considerably, thinking top fifteen, twenty. Would have to check.
So the dream team comes in and outside of Jenkins, most of the defensive talent was already on campus. Coach Grantham molded the existing core of players into a very good defense. Some top rated recruits we thought would be playing this year as regulars has not happened. Talking about a certain defensive end or linebacker. Coach Grantham is going to make him earn his stripes, that is coaching in my way of thinking. If the two young pups that Coach Grantham is recruiting heavily this year come to UGA, this could be an outstanding class.
Have to say this. I, speaking for myself, have not seen that kind of improvement on the offensive side of the ball. Think that we are still scoring about the same amount of points as the year before. Not sure. That is a lot of points, no doubt. Who do I give most of that credit to . . . . Coach Grantham and his defensive gang. Field position, third down stops etc. Hard for the teams we have played to work their way out of a hole when the punting game is working. Have always considered the punter to be a offensive/defensive player. Aids both sides of the ball.
If Richt can bring in the two young pups from North Carolina and they pan out, the offensive side of the ball should be close to equal to the defensive side of the ball. I have a lot of faith in Friend, think he will show marked improvement on the offensive line next season, even though we lose Glenn. These running backs will have a line to run behind.
wlayton could be wrong on this but I think I saw a big move on your part toward Richt after you attended the gathering that Richt was the main speaker in Jacksonville. I seemed to notice a change in your posts, and that is not a shot at you. I watch all of his pressers and I know that there is something there, just want to see more than one year's growth. He has a lot of talent on his side of the ball, and hopefully a couple of backs that might save AM's life.
