ogredawg, there is a young man playing at your high school that I hope we get. I would rank him as high as the young fellow from North Carolina. Although he does not play running back. :)

Buc JH-C has just moved up to 5 Star according to Rivals #19 nationally #1 in State 6-5 210#......word is he will be a Dawg.....

Lowndes star Josh Harvey-Clemons was moved from linebacker to athlete and made the biggest jump of any of the new five stars, up 18 slots to No. 19 in the country.

ogredawg, if JHC comes to UGA, my prayers have been answered. Most on this board know that I have been hoping that UGA would return to prominence on the defensive side. One would not know that looking at my avatar. ;) Been around SEC football too long, you cannot win consistently without a stout defense. My opinion . . . what makes the SEC stand out from other conferences . . . Defense. LSU #1 . . . . Bama #2 . . . in the country with what . . . Defense. JHC and Lowndes lets get together and let the schools in Florida hunt elsewhere. :)

We decided we will NOT wear the Nike Pro Combat uniforms again.

According to the article, players choice. Not one player wanted the uniforms. This group has come a long way.

To be fair though... I think people want to see if he "has us back" for more than one season
with a relatively weak schedule before CMR returns everyone's good graces. 2008's disappointment,
2009's fall, and 2010's debacle were hard pills to swallow.

sigh....well ok......hey guys, guess the island will remain just the 6 of us all next year......we had better get prepared though because after next year they will all realize CMR has got his act together and is reliable again and the island is going to over populate. :silly:

In that regard... probably a bit more than just a helping hand.

wlayton, you and I have been around this barnyard together for some time. I truly don't mind answering questions, but sometimes it seems that we (all of us) cover the same territory over and over.

This might be long, but (Buc can't do it any other way) so I will try.

On this board I have recorded and saved so many posts that recently I started to delete some of them. Reason being, it seems that the same message comes up over and over. Nothing really new, just a different time.

When Mark Richt was hired as the Head Football Coach at The University of Georgia (had to do that) Ohio State my butt, if you check back, I was the happiest camper on this board. I knew what we had on the offensive side of the ball. Richt is the one person that helped keep Bobby Bowden in Tallahassee. When Richt left, FSU started to melt down, all one has to do is look at the record books. If it has been in print for several years, cannot be erased. Bowden tried to bring his family (son) into FSU football. That was the death nail. Same can be said for Mark Richt and some of his hires at UGA. There is a pattern.

Coach Mark Richt was reluctant to take the job at Georgia, even the night before or close to that he thought he would stay at FSU. VD worked on him a bit and Mark took the job. Some of the serious FSU folks that I know said that Bobby Bowden knew if Mark Richt left, he (Coach Bowden) had lost his strongest supporter and coach. Remember that Bowden still had Mickey Andrews (head coach in waiting) and that was probably what moved Richt to accept the UGA head coaching job. It just made sense.

Richt said to VD that he was not sure that he was qualified to be the head coach at UGA. That statement alone made me grow even closer to Mark Richt. Richt was being truthful, he had always been a number two (2) whether playing football or coaching. Of course Mark Richt accepted. Knowingly or not he was not ready to be the head coach, not with some on the staff that did not want to play ball with him. VanGorder became an example later.

History began to unfold. Richt brought the FSU offensive system to UGA and as we all know, was very successful. Don't care if the players that he started with were recruited by the previous head coach or coaches. Mark Richt moved forward with a fine bunch of football players, and might I add, a pretty good defensive staff.

So, to shorten this post up a bit . . . . what happened? I can go over the next few years and say what I think happened and why it is not easy for me to throw accolades at everyone.

I think that Mark Richt got too comfortable or did not realize how much UGA football meant to those of us that support our school. He was not filppant, but he was close to arrogant. Don't ever say to me that you have to be on the field to understand the game. I know as much about football as Mark Richt does, give or take whatever it is you would like to discuss. Does anyone think that Mark Richt turned this team around, maybe some. Does he need to be patted on the back, maybe some. College football is a business, and all that the folks that support UGA want is a return on their investment. You understand that wlayton, the business you are in, the business that all of the supporters of the Red and Black are in. Return on investment.

I have a question or two for you wlayton. At what point did you and the ISLANDERS begin to look for everyone on this board to say that history is not history? Do you not think that all of us are not elated with the results of this season? Do you think that we just started questioning the UGA football program under Mark Richt? Do you think that we have not watched and been a part of UGA football more than the years under Mark Richt? Just asking . . .

Must say this . . . . Mark Richt has done a really good job of turning this program around or someone has caught his attention. I do have a question though. Would Willie Marinez still be here if there were not folks that might "undertand the game of football" and raised hell? If McGarity was not here would Martinez still be here? If McGarity was not the Athletic Director would the players be on the training table as it exists today? Someone needs to explain to me how this same group of players (FOR THE MOST PART) go from last years record to playing for the SEC CHAMPIONSHIP. Did Grantham have anything to do with that, or did I miss something. Maybe or could it be that is the reason that I make mention of Grantham so often. This team found itself when we hired a serious football coach, and I stand on that.

1. yes, I believe history is history.....can't change it, have to move forward, that's what UGA has done
2. Of course I know everyone is elated, I made no reference to that at all
3. Of course UGA football has been questioned in the past, most of us have been around long enough and questioned many things in the past

Really don't know the relevance of these questions.....I was just asking a simple question if you give any credit to CMR for this year because you seem to always and only reference CTG and McG (which I too agree have been significant in this year) The players actually said that after the 1st two games, it was CMR that calmed them down, reiterated they were going to be a good team and to keep working hard. The players gave a ton of credit to CMR for keeping them focused.

Btw, didn't CMR fire WM before McGarity came to UGA?

Well that's just what I see it taking to get everyone back in the boat. I've talked to some
other folk outside of the board who had jumped ship on Richt, and I was kind of surprised
that they said that was what it was going to take for them to get back on board the CMR
train.

wlayton, I know that you are on this board as much as anyone. If not, close.

I would venture to say that I have said as many or more complimentary things about Richt as you have. Seems to me that you jumped on the band wagon later on this year. Your earlier comments did not reflect a lot of need for Richt. Same can be said about last season. Many of us were of the same opinion.

Appears that our difference of opinion happened a few games back in the winning streak.

If we are discussing relevance. Asking me why I don't mention Richt more, has what to do with relevance. I express the way I think, not what someone wants me to think.

I mention Grantham/McGarity more, to answer your question . . . because I think that the two of them are much more responsbile for where this 2011 edition of the UGA football team is at this point. I have not knocked Richt, so not sure where you are coming from. If you are reading all of the threads and posts you would understand that.

If you want to start splitting hairs, let's go. You have the information on the firing of WM?

Do not appreciate your lack of reason about Richt and where you and I stand. Said to southernlover in another thread that I like the idea of Richt/Grantham coaching together. Appears to me that Grantham has his side of the line of scrimmage in order, or very close. I still see people on this board and others, also media questioning Richt keeping Bobo. Not real sure, will look, think you have done that recently also.

Just a thought or two.
