If I bashed it was because though I have felt Richt was incompetent for years I did not expect the level of incompetence you suggested.

Not many did. I think Richt just has a hard time making changes in the staf quick enough. Do I think CAN he be a good coach? Yes, I do and it showed during the first half of his career at UGA. Successful people are not successful as an individual. And I'm sure you and eveyone else knwos this. They surround themselves with talented people. He's hasn't had talented people (CWM, CMB, etc.) around him with the execption of top ten recruits that need to be taught and inspired.

If you're CMR, what would you do?

If I were Richt I would retire.

Richt does not appear to be the strong leader people often claim. Many get his spirituality side confused with being a strong leader. There are many strong leaders who are spiritual, but one does not automatically lead to the other.

I guess I am a little different. Yes, I for one was a Richt backer. Probably as strong as any, but not for one minute do I feel wrong for thinking that he was a good coach. I guess that I need to do a little research because I keep seeing where people are saying that we haven't been solid for the last 5 years. I guess either I missed remember a couple of those years, or 10+ wins and a BCS game win are not solid. Guess I am a little confused.
I might also need to do a little research because I am seeing all kinds of people claiming that they have been ranting about this for the last 5 years. I just don't remember all the so called disappointment with Richt. I will try to go back as far as I can to see if that was really the case because it could have been. I don't think anyone could have really predicted that after the 07 season that we were on the decline. Guess all those experts who picked us #1 could see the decline starting. Not saying people shouldn't be mad about what is happening lately, because every UGA fan should be ranting. But to say that we have seen this coming for 5 years. Really?? If that is the case we have a lot of people that need to get into the future telling business cause I don't think anyone could have predicted our current situation after the 07 season.

I am as frustrated as anyone. Yeah, I did believe after the last 6 or so games that we seemed to be going down the right path. Saw the kids battling, saw a little fire in Richt's eyes, and saw a team getting after it for each other. Things I thought were going to be positive momentum leading into next year. Felt good about it. Then, the Memphis trip happened. That was the worse of the worse. I simply just couldn't take it anymore. Saw No Team on the field. Guys weren't playing together. No inspiration whatsoever.

Lot of good view points. This is just how I feel about the situation. I guess I would have stood behind whoever our coach was. I just keep getting the feeling that some are feeling gratified due to the failure of Richt. I keep getting that feeling that too many are to happy to say "See I told you so" I can tell anyone this. I would happily say I was dead wrong and swallow all pride concerning the matter to see a NC, or an SEC champ. I know I am probably looking to deeply into it. I hope I haven't offended anyone, and I guess if I did offend you with those comment then maybe you are one of the I told you so people I was referring too.

GO DAWGS.

On another note, it looks like we had a great recruiting night. Just the icing on the cake after the Liberty Bowl.

2005 - The first year of the Martinez defense. McFadded torched us. Irons at Auburn torched us. I knew White and Slayton at WVU would torch us because the defense seemed soft.

2006 - Tennessee exposed the defense more. And we lost to Vandy and Kentucky which should never happen.

2007 - A roster full of NFL talent yet losses to SC and a bad Tennessee team. The BCS win was against a vastly over rated and not ready for prime time Hawaii.

2008 - unprepared and full of themselves the Dawgs got schooled by Alabama and Florida. The Ga. Tech loss further exposed the lack of defensive fundamentals. Dwyer is still running.

2009 - self explanatory from here on out.

The 2005 Sugar Bowl was the key for me. Rodriguez had this funky spread punt formation he used two times during the game and both times he got a 5 yard procedure penalty. At the time I was thinking that was odd then they did the same thing in the 4th quarter when they had to keep the ball away and immediately I knew it was set up. Richt got out foxed.

It was all down hill from there as I paid closer attention to the defense. The best talent in the conference masked some problems, but when the top talent went to the NFL the curtain was pulled back for everyone to see.

For the record I have won every college football weekly pick em I have entered much to the consternation of my friends over at the BMW site.

Here is an old thread from 2006

dawgs.com/georgia-bulldogs/1234-how-long...his/index2.html#1255

I said back then:

I agree Richt is a great coach. I just prefer a more assertive style of leadership. It is a matter of preference. I do admit teaching young men to accept responsibilty and be leaders is important. I am merely expressing my opinion. Some may like it some may not. If kids get all the way to college and still need ample molding from a coach then parents have failed.

I am eternally grateful for the SEC championships and the return to winning ways. I just like to see a little passion or fire.

I would never support any school like Thug U. I actually think we should adopt stricter policies toward student behavior. No DUIs or arrests allowed at all. One strike and you are out. Know the boundaries when you come in and then live by them.

No player or coach is above criticism. Losing to Vandy because our players seem as though they were unprepared is unacceptable in anything other than the math olympics.

This really has nothing to do with someones kids going to play for coach. It has to do with criticism of decisions made. And the criticisms are fair.

This is as far back as I can find when I first started voicing concerns.
